ROMEO
[To JULIET] If I profane with my unworthiest hand
This holy shrine, the gentle fine is this:
My lips, two blushing pilgrims, ready stand
To smooth that rough touch with a tender kiss.
JULIET
Good pilgrim, you do wrong your hand too much,
Which mannerly devotion shows in this;
For saints have hands that pilgrims' hands do touch,
And palm to palm is holy palmers' kiss...
Those classic lines are from Act I, Scene V of Romeo and Juliet. They were also printed on two photocopies of the scene. One copy was in my hand; the other copy was in my scene partner's hand. It was during my high school drama class. We, the students, were required to put a scene together and perform it in front of the class. The scenes were due Friday, much like this story.
Anyway, there was this really hot girl in my class named Kim. She was a blue-eyed blonde bombshell. And as fate would have it, she was my scene partner. I was this shy, introverted geek with horn-rimmed glasses. I felt so unworthy, I could barely look at her. All I could do was stare at my shoes and say something like, "Uh...uh...are you sure you...uh...want to be...uh...my partner?" Not only did she ask me to be her partner, she chose the scene! Not just any scene, but Act I, Scene V! The one where...uh...uh...they kiss!
So my first kiss happened on a Thursday. We were in our little corner of the auditorium rehearsing. I was 16 and she was 15 (probably the same age as Romeo and Juliet). "I think we need to practice the kiss one more time," she said, looking up at me, batting her eyelashes. What could I say? How about, "Uh...OK!"?
The following day we did our scene in front of the class. We totally botched our lines but we did the kiss like a couple of pros. The class was impressed! "Woooooo!" they said. That "wooooo" earned us a B- for the assignment.
After that euphoric experience, Kim and I started dating, then we got married and lived happily ever after--NOT! Actually, she dropped out of school and I never saw her again. I was so heartbroken, I tried to commit suicide by sniffing an open bottle of rubbing alcohol. That didn't work out for me either. But one thing that did work was that first kiss! Looking back I am amazed how powerful it was--how it made me feel--what it drove me to do. Ecstasy followed by tragedy. I'm just an actor in a play called "Life," and Act I, Scene V of that play was my first kiss.
Today’s prompt:
Tell your first kiss story! Was it sweet? Romantic? Gross? Funny? Embarrassing? Don’t remember it? Make one up and see if we can tell the difference! If your story is outlandish enough, we might figure it out. :-)
Optional: Post two stories: one that really happened, the other a lie (keep 'em short!), and let us vote on which one we think is the truth. :-)

I had to write you for not only enjoying the experience of your first kiss, but because I ran across some of your comments you wrote for an article I posted with the title, “Must Worship of God and Moral Beliefs Go Together?” It was your commentary that made me feel I have another brother in this world for you supported the views I had expressed. Upon reading about your first kiss, I felt I had to return to you in some way.
My first kiss was practicing on my pillow, of which age I cannot remember. But I do remember fanaticizing about a pretty girl I never did get to kiss. I believe it was possibly at the age of six or seven. But I do recall my first kiss and the apprehension of whether or not she wanted me to kiss her. She did and I was not overjoyed but happy to know I was accepted by a girl I was attracted to.
Through my lifetime, I have kissed many women and all were precious in their own way. Now, a man of 76 years of age, I have many wonderful memories to reflect on. The most wonderful feeling is the feeling of acceptance by both lovers and getting to feel the inward senses of somebody else. I will not go on with my past but as a man who has had the good fortune to love others, I extend my best wishes to young people who indulge in a kiss; and to remember there is nothing more precious as sincerity and honesty in all relationships whereby that kiss becomes a welcome memory.
It always amazed me about school rules. No kissing in the hallways but the janitors closet is okay.
