The MLB off-season has officially started, and now teams will look to make trades and sign free agents to improve and make a run at the post-season next year.
The latest trade rumor from Bleacher Report has the NY Yankees trying to acquire a top-notch pitcher as the clubs pitching rotation needs an upgrade heading into 2012, and Clayton Kershaw of the LA Dodgers is the main player of this deal.
The LA Dodgers are in trouble financially, and the team will need to trim salary, unless the new owner has very deep pockets and is willing to eat the big contracts the team has on its payroll. Kershaw is one of the best young pitchers in baseball, but the Dodgers struggled with him, and making a deal for some good young talent might be the best move the team can make as they try to rebuild the organization.
New York has some tremendous young talent, and no doubt catcher Jesus Montero would need to be included if the Dodgers traded their ace, but Los Angeles would also need at least three other prospects to make it worth dealing their young left-hander.
New York will use this winter to reload their roster with talent, but payroll doesn't always equal championships as the team found out this past MLB season. The Dodgers need to rebuild from the inside out to regain the trust of the fans and once again become one of the best clubs in baseball.
