Motorola's 4G Droid RAZR smartphone becomes available in Verizon Wireless stores on the binary date 11.11.11, Veterans Day in the US, and comes with an enticing double data plan mobile broadband offering.
Some People Believe That 11. 11. 11, a Rare Binary Day, Has Special Significance
For Motorola and Verizon Wireless, it appears as though the companies are hoping starting sales of the Motorola Droid RAZR, its latest Android smartphone, on 11. 11.11 at 11:11 AM will be a lucky time to kick off marketing efforts. As 11. 11. 11 is also Veterans Day they seem to believe the date and time is one that is easy to remember and that will spark interest.
Both companies have high expectations that the RAZR will be a hit. The Droid RAZR is a whole new animal from the original RAZR which with even more than 50 million units sold failed to offer new design and exciting new features. Rather than a redesign, Motorola provided incremental updates to existing phones and called them RAZR devices.
The new Droid RAZR smartphone with LTE is an advanced model with Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system and Long Term Evolution 4G on board. The RAZR owns one of the thinnest profiles, only 7.7 mm, of any smartphone.
The RAZR Has Impressive Specs and Looks Great
The specs are impressive: RAZR features a dual-core 1.2-GHz processor, a large qHD 540 x 960 display screen, a sharp 8-megapixel HD video camera, all of 32 GB for media and files storage, and tough Kevlar (the bulletproof vest kind) built into the phone. It is light and has desirable winning looks.
The biggest negative of the RAZR is that when under 4G coverage the battery life is all too short. Unfortunately, to date miserable battery life seems to plague all 4G smartphones.
The RAZR will cost $299.99 with a new contract and will require a standard voice and data plan. Verizon Wireless is running an attractive special promotion for new and existing customers. They can double their monthly data allotment at no extra cost just by purchasing an LTE 4G smartphone.
When you purchase a RAZR a double monthly data allotment will automatically be offered to new customers. Existing customers will have to reconfigure their plan by using Verizon's online account tools.
What do you think? Do you find the RAZR specs and price really interesting when coupled to the double data plan? Will you be eager to upgrade to a new Droid RAZR?
