Scandal

Normally, I think most of us wouldn't want to discuss a topic that has a subject line like mine. We all want to avoid bad press and steer clear of people that are in trouble. Personally, I don't know what he knew, but I try to trust the people around me.

Sadly, to many people came forward and a coach, who I felt was there for the players is gone. The Penn State coach was fired. Now there is rioting and violence and many people will get hurt.

I understand the college felt they had to take a strong stand and if it is proven in court that any of the coaches committed a crime, then they should be in prison. We all hear rumors all over the place and I have seen more than a few false posts on Gather.

In my opinion writers have to be careful when we make any kind of post because false information spreads fast and its hard for anyone to believe the truth in the end. Andy Rooney one of my favorite people passed away recently and he could say in a couple words what many of us could say in many words. I'll miss him and I know he would have had something to say about the long time coach.

Someone on Gather posted the grand jury report yesterday, so I'm pretty much going by what I read there. The grad student who saw Sandusky violating the little boy should have called the police, not his daddy. When he told Paterno, Paterno should have called the police, but he didn't. When he told Curley and the other guy (can't think of his name), they should have gone to the police. Instead they all chose the protection of their jobs and the reputation of the college over the welfare of those little boys.

Another even worse rumor regarding the situation has now surfaced. Let's see if that gets investigated or covered up.

I agree when you see a crime you should report it to the police. One recent post I have seen says "witness will coach the team". I feel if this is true, then the college really isn't handling this well.

Actually, I want to know why the assistant, who said he saw the crime committed gets promoted to the coach. This is completely wrong. I think he should have been fired!

In posting on Gather, How would we determine if the information is false or truth? The media is doing a great wealth of speaking on the TV. Some will follow the story and others will frankly not care. Publicity is a hard thing to control.

I think that is the real problem its hard to tell what is the truth. Do I believe that a witness is now going to coach the team. If so, then I think the college is making the entire sad situation even worse.

It seems like the media today just wants to blow everything out of proportion, twisting the facts to their own "liking." The media is so darn biased and "one sided," and they can NEVER, ever see both sides or try to report things in a "neutral" manner......that's why I try to avoid media stuff and I let everything I hear go in one ear and out the other."
The media has their own "agenda."

Thankfully only one was injured. I feel bad for almost everyone. I was watching Paterno and his wife on their front doorstep. They are so old and frail. And by the time Joe Paterno lives this down, he'll be dead. What I don't understand is how can they continue to let the fromer grad assistant (who is now a coach on the team) who saw the incident happen continue to work there, but fire Paterno? That guy, then 28, now 38 called his dad and went to his dad's house that night. The next day they went to Paterno and told him. How is that assistant coach getting to keep his job and not Paterno? I mean Paterno couldn't have stopped it when it happened, couldn't have taken the boy away that minute, but that guy that saw it could have.

I think we aren't getting the entire story, as why would they keep the assistant, who said he saw a crime committed and fire Paterno.
