Everyone's talking about Rick Perry's embarrassing brain fart from the November 9th GOP Presidential Debate, which was televised on CNBC. Last night in Michigan, Perry emphatically said he was going to get rid of three federal agencies as soon as he was elected president: "Commerce, Education and the uh, um, what's the third one there? Let's see..."
It was obvious that he couldn't remember the third agency, and the candidate to his left, Mitt Romney, joking suggested EPA. The joke was met with laughter and applause. Forty more seconds of awkwardness passed and Perry never named the agency he wants to ax. Although he did argue that the EPA does need to be restructured. And what's up with Perry wanting to get rid of the Department of Education? What exactly does that accomplish?
Perry's Recovering with Humor
Thursday morning has been all about damage control, and Perry has proven that he can at least laugh at himself. On Laura Ingraham's radio program this morning, Rick Perry quoted Britney Spears, saying that the phrase, "Oops, I did it again" came to mind after his forgetful gaffe.
Later today Perry will also appear on the Late Show with David Letterman and Jon Stewart's Daily Show. It's almost certain that David Letterman and Jon Stewart are going to have a lot of fun with this one at Perry's expense.
Potential SNL Appearance
Ingraham joked that Rick Perry should make an appearance on SNL, and Perry said that's something to consider. It could be a strategic advantage for Perry to make fun of himself on SNL. Bill Clinton had enormous success as a presidential candidate when he made the late show rounds playing saxophone and Perry now has a similar opportunity.
