'NCIS' 'Engaged, Part 2' Preview: Will Gibbs Bring a Missing Marine Home Alive?

NCIS season 9 continues next week with episode 9, "Engaged, Part 2." They have a missing Marine on their hands, and it looks like she's alive. Will Gibbs be able to find her and bring her home safely to her father?

"As the NCIS team continues its search for a missing Marine, Gibbs and Ziva travel to her last known whereabouts in Afghanistan. Meanwhile, Tony reveals his deepest fears and Gibbs is forced to relive events from his past."

For November sweeps, this drama brought quite a moving episode with the first part of "Engaged" (recap here), and it ended with Gibbs planning to be on the plane to Afghanistan to find Gabriela since they found satellite footage that showed she wasn't killed at the school during the attack. She escaped with two girls, but they were caught. Ziva will be joining Gibbs in trying to bring her home; will they succeed?

The NCIS promo for "Engaged, Part 2" (below) shows Gibbs and Ziva heading to Afghanistan. Gabriela saved two girls from the attack, but will she survive herself? There's a shot of Gibbs sitting on a transport with a coffin draped with the American flag in front of him. Uh-oh, that doesn't look good. Gibbs is going to be right in the middle of the action as he looks for Gabriela. Will he be able to turn the tables on the hostage situation in the promo? It ends with Gibbs' "Give me a reason" as he stands with his gun ready. Could one of the soldiers from her unit that has been searching for Gabriela be the one they're bringing home in a coffin? Will Gibbs get to Afghanistan only to lose Gabriela despite his best efforts? Will this story have a happy ending for the Flores family?

Meanwhile, the synopsis also addresses Tony's fears, and the others did notice he was a bit off during "Engaged, Part 1." He has realized that life is short and has even started making a bucket list. One of the items on that list was "Tell Dad it's okay." With Robert Wagner returning as Anthony DiNozzo Sr. the next episode (but not in the best of circumstances), could the reason for that be revealed then? What are Tony's "deepest fears"? There's also going to be more about Gibbs' past, as Sean Harmon will be back as the young Gibbs again. Jeananne Goossen is also returning for the second part as Joan Matteson, whom the young Gibbs met in the first part of "Engaged." What else will be revealed about what happened to Gibbs when he was serving?
