A Twitter user going by the name "Sophie Sykes" tweeted a few chilling messages on Saturday night and hasn't been heard from since. Who is she? Is she a real person? And, most importantly, did she actually commit suicide?
The tweets were picked up by Twitter Trends for a few hours and the web was abuzz for a day afterwards. The Twitter account for Sykes has apparently been suspended, but that doesn't answer the question: what happened?
All that is known is that the first tweet on Saturday evening from Sophie Sykes, which started the drama, was about a breakup she was going through with someone named Nathan. As the tweets progressed they became even more worrisome, including "I'm right by the edge" and then "I'm gonna fall".
Although the web kicked into high gear soon after, the tweets stopped after that. So the mystery remains. Is Sophie Sykes a real person or is this just the latest, sickest Twitter hoax? And, if she is a real person, was someone able to get to her in time to help?
The world wants to know. Anyone with any information, please leave a comment below.
