Arkay Beverages, a Florida-based company, is set to launch the world's first non-alcoholic whiskey. Available in stores December 1st, supposedly it tastes just like the real thing.
Alcohol-Free Whiskey? Really??
So, who on earth wants to drink alcohol-free whiskey? The most obvious targets are people who like the taste of whiskey but can't partake because of health reasons, religious beliefs or maybe an AA program. It's suspect how large that group actually is, but apparently Arkay Beverages thinks it will be a profitable market.
Critics have met Arkay's non-alcoholic whiskey product with skepticism and scorn. They attributed the nature of alcohol-free whiskey to non-alcoholic beers like O'Doul's and decaf coffee. Essentially their question is, "what's the point?"
Alcohol Alternative for the Holidays
As the holidays approach, many families are worried about the one bad apple in the family who partakes in too much Jack Daniels. Maybe this person can be subtly silenced by a non alcoholic whiskey and not even know the difference. As long as they don't try this trick on Winston Churchill. One of his memorable quotes:
"...the water was not fit to drink. To make it palatable we had to put a bit of whiskey in it. By diligent effort I learned to like it."
