A Canadian dentist has bought a little Beatles memorabilia at the cost of over $30,000. John Lennon's tooth, a cavity-ridden molar that had been given to his house keeper Dot Jarlett in the 1960's, was purchased by Dr. Micheal Zuk over the phone.
Dr. Zuk, who has written a book on celebrities' teeth, clearly wanted to get his hands on Lennon's tooth when he heard it was available.
"Once I heard it was up for sale I had to have it." he said.
Dr. Zuk will be displaying the tooth in his office and taking it on tour (just like old times when it was in John Lennon's mouth) to dental schools. Will people be awed or slightly grossed out, considering the bad condition of the tooth?
Even Karen Fairweather from Omega Auctions confirms that John Lennon's tooth is not in the best shape.
"It's rather gruesome, yellowy, browny with a cavity."
Did John Lennon know his tooth would be a collector's item? It seems that he did, according to Fairweather.
"John Lennon came back from the dentist and gave it to his housekeeper and said to dispose of it 'or better still give it to your daughter as a souvenir'."
Too bad he didn't give her one that was in a little better shape. Do you think John Lennon's tooth is worth the price paid for it? Does it make you want to go brush your teeth right now?
