New Girl season 1 finally continues with episode 4, "Naked." Jess makes things awkward after she accidentally sees Nick naked.
Knocking would've been good
Jess finds the guys watching a scary movie, and after she spoils it, they leave. Schmidt offers Nick some help when he's going on a date—possibly—with Amanda. She's too ironic for him to understand when she actually means something. Jess interrupts and calls it a big deal that he's dating again. Schmidt and Jess tell him to "suck in the gut," leading to him going to look in a mirror at his body. He dances shirtless.
Meanwhile, Winston's job interview didn't go well; he needs to catch up on the news and asks Schmidt to fill him in. Nick, still dancing, takes off his pants and boxers. Jess goes to tell him to turn down the music and sees him naked. She laughs before leaving.
Winston asks Schmidt to test him as he catches up. Jess interrupts to tell them she saw Nick naked. She tries to talk to him about it, but he leaves for his date. After, Winston remarks he's seen Nick naked, and Schmidt's upset he hasn't because he's Nick's best friend. Schmidt explains that she has to act like it never happened.
Amanda brings Nick home with her, but he has issues getting naked in front of her. They end up lying in bed together fully clothed. It's awkward. When he comes home the next morning, Jess remarks the date must've went well. She brings out a feelings stick, which lets someone talk without being judged. She asks how he's feeling, and he breaks the stick in half. She has a travel-size one. She follows him to the elevator and says she didn't mean to laugh. She insists they have to talk about it, and he tells her he heard her laugh whenever he tried to get naked with Amanda. Jess wonders if he just doesn't want to have meaningless sex, but he points out they can't have a meaningful conversation because she can't say "penis." She tries to prove she can, but she obviously can't. Schmidt tries to sneak a look in the bathroom, but Nick throws him out.
Things get more awkward on New Girl?
Cece knows she freaked out and made a noise, but tells Jess to just make it even by showing him hers. Schmidt finds Winston down about something. He killed the interview chitchat wise but didn't have an answer for why he wanted to sell medical supplies. Schmidt gets him up and out for a run, and while Winston feels better about his life, Schmidt feels worse about his own.
Nick tells Amanda he just got out of a relationship and apologizes about the night before. She likes that he's honest. When Jess hears Nick coming home, she runs into his room in just a towel, but he enters with Amanda, and they're getting naked. Jess tries to sneak out, but they see her. Her towel falls when she's running out.
Nick yells about knocking on doors and tells Jess to put the feelings stick down. Winston picks it up and says Nick should drop his pants to make Schmidt feel better. Later on, Winston thanks Schmidt for taking him running. He learned that everyone has their moments and theirs will come.
Jess knocks on Nick's door and when she enters, she tells him she worked on something for him: "penis." He doesn't see Amanda calling him back and thinks she could be right that he's not ready for meaningless sex. She asks if he saw everything when she was leaving in a hurry. He did.
Nick goes to take a shower and tells Schmidt to get out.
