Everyone would prefer to avoid acid reflux. It usually doesn't stop you from functioning, but it can certainly make you feel rotten. People who suffer from acid reflux are often complaining about the foods they are stuck eating and the pain they often feel. Acid reflux, fortunately, is a condition that can usually be prevented. Most of the time the acid in your stomach and esophagus reacts badly to something that you have done or eaten and that is what triggers an attack. The following are some of the more common acid reflux causes, so you will know how to reduce the chances of triggering an attack.
Are you one of the many people who like to snack right before bedtime? Almost everyone has heard or read that this should be avoided. Eating snacks right before bedtime is almost universally condemned by health and medical experts. Most people have gotten this advice since they were children. This is one piece of wisdom that is based on fact! Eating right before sleeping, you have an increased chance of suffering from acid reflux.
When you lie down, you make it difficult for your body to prevent your stomach acid from leaving your stomach, and this can give you acid reflux symptoms. The more time you give your final meal or snack of the day to digest, the better. Your body will thank you for it.
Certain commonly consumed medicines can cause acid reflux symptoms. One of the more common types of medicine that causes acid reflux are muscle relaxers. If you take any type of blood pressure medications, these can also cause acid reflux attacks. Even over the counter blood thinners like Advil and ibuprofen can cause an acid reflux attack. If you have a sensitive stomach you should try to stay away from these medications.
Some people, of course, must take them for medical reasons, and in this case you should see if your doctor can recommend something else instead or a way to minimize these troublesome side effects.
Believe it or not, some people experience acid reflux as a result of doing certain exercises.
Exercises that target the abdominal wall are the kind usually associated with acid reflux problems. If too much pressure is exerted on the stomach, stomach acid can be pushed into the esophagus. Don't use this as an excuse to quit your exercise program! But when it comes to exercising your abdominal muscles, don't do high impact exercises if they produce these symptoms. You should also not eat for some time before your workout. Your doctor or an exercise trainer may be able to give you more tips on how to exercise in ways to reduce the likelihood of triggering acid reflux symptoms.
Avoiding the main causes of acid reflux is easily managed. While it is true that there are a few medical reasons for acid reflux, for the most part heartburn attacks are brought on by environmental and lifestyle choices. Take time to examine your lifestyle choices to see if that is what's causing your acid reflux and make any necessary changes to avoid future attacks. Consult your doctor for help and tips. You can also ask them for additional steps you can take to prevent any more acid reflux attacks.
Being prone to acid reflux should not keep you from living your life to the fullest.
