Prince Charles claims Vlad the Impaler among his ancestors. Vlad was a Romanian warlord during the 15th century known for his extreme cruelty. The cruel man was the inspiration for Bram Stoker's Dracula (vampires have been cool for centuries).
Prince Charles made the revelation about his ancestor Vlad the Impaler on a television show in which he is promoting conservation of the forests in Romania. Earlier this year he visited Transylvania, which he said is a treasure because of its unspoiled environment.
While there are times when the British royals may not want to be related to nefarious characters in history, this time it works. It is noble of Prince Charles to work to save the environment and tress in Romania. If invoking the name of his well-known ancestor could help, then he absolutely should use his connections. It is just smart promotion for his pet environmental cause.
Do you think this strategy will help save the forests of Transylvania? If nothing else, the news of the Royal family tree is certainly interesting. Thank goodness they appear to have turned from the evil ways of Vlad the Impaler.
