On Dancing with the Stars for Broadway week, David Arquette and Kym Johnson took on a familiar tune from Grease. The song, called "We Go Together"--as well as the dance that went with it--drew on the inimitable performance of John Travolta and Olivia Newton John when the two stars took on this number in the film version of the musical (and yes, these actors were nothing less than smashing!).
As such, on Dancing with the Stars, the resident pro Australian and her American prodigy did the best they could with the material these two were given in the time in which they had to get it right.
But was that enough?
Possibly not at this point, which is halfway through season 13 of Dancing with the Stars. In an effort that earned these two hoofers a total of 23, putting David and Kym at the middle of the leaderboard, this very attractive team may need to depend on the voters in a big way if Arquette and Johnson are to stay on the TV talent show for another week.
As for the judges' opinions, well some of their comments were a bit lackluster.
Head arbiter Len Goodman called this quickstep "high energy" and "full of enthusiasm" but he also said, "It was what it was." Um, OK, not the most enthusiastic reaction.
Cheery Bruno Tonioli was more upbeat, saying that Arquette was "so charged up [he was] like a live wire." Although enthusiastic, this comment was a bit vague, don't you think?
And then there were the words from Carrie Ann Inaba who wasn't thrilled when she told David and Kym they were "a little out of synch." To add to that, this judge shared, "As far as performance goes, I thought you completely lived up to any expectation we had." Talk about a backward compliment.
Well, at least this Dancing with the Stars critique was not overly nasty even though the judges had to give their opinions on a number that some may consider a ballroom fumble.
Still, David Arquette and his partner, Aussie Kym Johnson did the best Grease impression on the hit ABC show that they could muster for the Monday. And maybe, just maybe, this impression will be enough to get these two to week 7 of DWTS for season 13. It all depends on the voters, now doesn't it?
