Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez will get a big surprise for Christmas. At least that's what the vast majority of their fans and haters alike believe. Alas. it's not a surprise either one of them will like. In fact, it will make them miserable. According to a new online poll, most people think the teen couple's relationship will hit the skids "within the next few months, just in time to be miserable for the holidays." Poor Jelena.
Unbelievably enough, an amazing 25,000 people have participated in an ongoing opinion poll which asks a single question about the teen celebrity pairing now known as Jelena. That question: "How long will Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez last?" garnered surprising results.
An overwhelming majority believe the couple's breakup is not only inevitable but imminent. A whopping 45.84% or 11,528 voters think JB and Selena will be together for only a few more months. Sad. But wait. Some voters were even less sanguine. 19.2% or 4,829 gave the second most famous couple in the world only a few more weeks of togetherness. A scant 16.52% or 4,156 cock-eyed optimists gave their relationship a few more years. And 4,637 die-hard romantics actually think their love is the real deal, and will last forever. Oddly, the romantics make up only 18.44%, thus slightly outnumbering their cock-eyed counterparts, but still trailing the "few more weeks" pessimists by a nose.
The real question, of course, is why do most people refuse to believe Justin and Selena when they say they're really in love. Is it because of the impermanence inherent in all human relationships? Is it because of their youth? Is the plethora of celebrity divorces and cheating scandals to blame? Or is it because most people think Justin and Selena are simply somehow intrinsically incompatible.
In the end, it all depends on how you feel about polls, and whether they reflect, in any way, the reality of any situation. Interestingly, a similar poll, conducted last month asked: "Do you think Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez will get married?" A small 16.24% admitted they weren't sure. Almost twice as many respondents-- 27.63%--voted an emphatic "No!" But a whopping 56.13% replied with an equally emphatic "Yes!"
Note to Jelena: You go, you crazy kids. They said the same thing about the most famous couple in the world--Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. And it's been how many years now?
