“Throw her in the pond and see if she sinks!” screamed the surging mob. Sick to death—literally—of rats and fleas overrunning their town, cows gone dry, fields lying fallow, and an alarming 10-year increase in stillbirths, they felt completely helpless.
They needed to blame someone, to regain their of sense power…However transitory that might be.
T’wasn’t my fault. The Sagewomen dropped me on this planet to observe a society destroy itself, that I might return home and save our own.
Each life is essential to the Collective.
They grabbed me, our skin blackened and oozing with Plague. I quietly sank and disappeared into the belly of Mother Earth.
