Are there celebrities that you refuse to watch?

Most people I know hate certain actors and refuse to watch them at all, for anything and for everything they have ever done no matter what.

 

I have a lot of actors I don't like ... but ... there always seems to be exceptions and I like something they did A LOT, in spite of themselves.

I hate Tom Cruise, I just do! But I LOVE Interview With A Vampire and never tire of it.

Mel Gibson has been about as vile & rude as a pompous star can get but I love his Mad Max movies, love Gallipoli, and think he was a fine actor in Hamlet!

Jane Fonda usually looks so self conscious in her acting so she usually seems like a bumbling lousy actress, and she was a bumbling inarticulate idiot in her most famous Vietnam War Protests. But that bad acting tick worked to her advantage in The China Syndrome and Julia. The characters really are self conscious nervous messes, LOL,  Love those movies.

Arnold Swartzenegger CAN'T ACT ... but he makes a believable robot!

Gene Kelly was notorious for being one of the biggest egomaniacs in Hollywood, but hey, it's Hollywood. And I looove his movies !!!

Charleston Heston can top my list of irritating stars, but I love lots of his movies in the 1970s.

John Wayne can drive me bananas in seconds with his ultra repetitive phoney speech, but I'll watch Reunion in France over and over (it's really a Joan Crawford movie anyway, ha ha ha)

Something about John Denver drives me nuts but I totally enjoyed Oh God!

Bette Davis was so rude, and sometimes just comes off like a shrill wind-up toy, but some of her movies are absolutely fabulous. Especially All About Eve and Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte.

Barbara Streisand can get on my nerves but I adore Yentl.

I don't like Norma Shearer much but Marie Antoinette was marvelous.

I don't like Marylin Monroe when she's too girly cutesy, but adore The Misfits (where she acts like a normal person).

Bernadette Peters and her girly cutesy act drives me nuts in no time. So she was great as an irritating vain girly superficial beauty shop bimbo in The Martian Chronicles. LOL

Madonna can often be gawd awful beyond belief. Every second of Evita is a glorious movie masterpiece ... go figure.

Paris Hilton is the most vapid of stars but I sure got a kick out of watching her running amuck in Arkansas in the TV show The Simple Life. ha ha ha (okay, I admit I could only put up with the first season, LOL)

 

For nasty perverted pederasts as directors, I sure wish somebody besides Roman Polanski had done China Town, because I sure like that movie a lot !!!

Elai Kazan ruined a lot of careers and lives "naming names" in the mentally ill McCarthy era, but he was a Great American Director anyway.

 

 

 

Are there any stars you hate but have grand exceptions here and there with their work, anyway? Or do you just hate & shun them to the bitter end, just because of principle.

I think Lady Gaga has a nice strong voice and can play the heck out of the piano so she'll do better when she's older and has outgrown the generic sounding dance tunes, I think (in my own most humble opinion, LOL). I think she would be great in a revival of Funny Girl live on stage, to ditch the pop sound all together, for awhile, and dress up in other ways!!!

I'm with you on all your comments. I love Evita and I have no idea why it didn't do better... Wow what great performances from everyone! I really think given the right vehicle Madonna has great acting talent. Though she does push the envelope in other areas. But then if we didn't have Madonna, there would be no Lady Gaga and she is bringing a whole new meaning to fabulous. What an imagination... and the clothing and the whole production... I so admire her putting this stuff together, it's not just her voice and songs. Though the whole poisoning everyone in the diner in her "Telephone" video was a bit much. I like the parody of "telephone" by "Key of Awesome" on Utube... they do great stuff...

The only person that I can remember that really annoyed me, Gilbert Gottfried. There is only so much of his screechy voice and whining I could take. I realize it's an act, a gimic that he uses but Wow, so irritating... :)

Add to that list poorly done southern accents...any southern accent is annoying, a poorly done accent is mind numbing.

* Kyra Sedgwick I cannot look or listen to her. The only movie she was in that I likes/loved was: Something to Talk About: Julia Roberts, Dennis Quaid, Robert Duvall, Gena Rowlands, Kyra Sedgwick, Brett Cullen, Haley Aull, Muse Watson.

Joan Crawford erased hers when sound came in.

@Rhetta Do not miss quote me, then dismiss the parts you choose.

"Add to that list poorly done southern accents...any southern accent is annoying, a poorly done accent is mind numbing." Since the bulk of my family lives in the south, I can speak from my own view point as they do of my Northern academic accent!

Bottom line, you have no voice in a debate about my life choices.

What I really really hate is a grating loud cockney! Marlene Dietrich did a marvelous one in Witness For The Prosecution! I HATED it when Julie Andrews and Audrey Hepburn did it.

(ha ha, Dustin Hoffman's Southern accent in Tootsie, LOL)

Meryl Streep has a fantastic ear for accents!!!

I bet there are different Southern accents - that Georgia is a bit different than Arkansas that is different than Southern Illinois ... and there is class to consider in that, too ...

That is true, if you listen to C-SPAN the differences are more than unique to the individual, they are quite different in the mid-western southern states and The Carolinas are different from Kentucky, and Tenn., Arkansas etc... accents are quite regional. I am in Cambridge; the accent of "Boston" (just over the river) is vastly different!

I generally try to stay away from movies with Dolph Lundgren and I don't like Lindsay Lohan as an actress or, as far as I can tell, a person.

I could go on & on, but suffice to say I will just name the absolute WORST acting job that I ever saw: Glenn Campbell in the original "True Grit."

Who? If Glenn Campbell, it's fortunate for him that he didn't give up his day job as a singer. If Caroll O'Connor, he'll always be typecast as Archie Bunker, lol.

I loved Archie, I mean Caroll's little bit in a toga in Liz & Dick's Cleopatra, ha ha
Glenn Campbell was a studio musician for many years before his singing career got off the ground. He played on a lot of records in the '50s. The best known one is probably "Tequila." I always thought he should have stuck with the studio work.

He WAS very talented with the guitar.
I am so adept at avoiding the ones I hate that i cant remember their names, but i cant stand the guy that starred in that movie with the poster of the guy and the kid pissing on a wall, he also stared with another actress I cant stand in however many it was first dates, etc

There are a lot I can't stand too....Jim Carrey is also on my list....Fran Dresher.....Jane Fonda.....Pauly Shore.....Adam Sandler....Rob Schneider...etc.

Tom Crusie may be a wacko, but in general, I like his movies. Taps is still one of my favorites of his.

I would be hard pressed to say whom is whom, since I don't watch much TV and very seldom watch a movie. I have things to do way more interesting. For example, today I used Adhesive solvent to take off the glue on the bathroom floor left from vinyl tiles I had ripped out.
Honestly, would you rather remove glue in a poorly ventilated area or watch movies?
My favorite present day TV star is Rick Mercer. He's funny and a caring man.

harrison ford------he was a senior in college when i was a freshman----he was already arrogant, sneering, nasty, and psycho in those days......

he was going with a lovely girl---they later married, and he beat her up on a regular basis.....what a jerk------he also beat up his 2nd wife---i assume he beats up ms flockhart as well.....

i ran into him once when i lived in NYC----he was still a pig, just a more famous one!---he made some unsavoury comments to me in front of my young daughter (yes, he recognized me)

he is a complete jerk, and it really makes me angry that people think he is so wonderful and such a humanitarian....

i would not walk 2 feet to spit on him if he were on fire.....LOL
Robin Williams is the only one I can think of. He always seemed like a schizophrenic to me. He makes me very uneasy. I don't find his work zany. It's more like the people you see on the street making speeches to blank walls.

Almost every movie Polanski made is better than good. His early films "Knife on the Water," and "Repulsion" are marvelous.

Errol Flynn and Charlie Chaplin had similar tastes in women.

No, I dont think I hate anyone this bad. People put such people on high pedestals, when in fact they are just people..... Guy hates Merle Haggard for things he did way back when, me..... well ya people are just people and I may not condone what some folks do in their private life's, but that is none of my business. I play haggard when Guy is not home so I do not have to hear him rant and rant. Singers , actors, writers, photographer, on and on are just people. Their is the private life, then professional life. You can like/hate one without like/hating the other. Or that is the way I see things.

Because Charlie Sheen is a woman beater, I have stopped buying his stuff.
