Web traffic monitoring service comScore has released another study detailing the drive of traffic from the iPad and other mobile devices. The report details the usage of mobile users, including tablets, and how much they are starting to take precedence over other ways to browse the Web.
In the report, the iPad drove about 46 percent of the web traffic from iOS devices, outpacing the iPhone recently. The tablet has steadily grown popular and even smashed other tablets in the tablet-only group, accounting for roughly 97 percent of the traffic.
Other interesting statistics include: 58 percent of tablet users are consuming news content mainly on their tablets, and almost half of these same users either completed or made a purchase strictly on their tablet. Other comScore statistics from this report clearly show that the tablet is starting to become a go-to device for consumers, more so than the desktop computer.
One reason, comScore points out, is the rise of Wi-Fi availability throughout the United States. As shown, a whopping 90 percent of tablet use happens to be over a Wi-Fi connection.
However, despite this change to mobile browsing, there are still a majority of websites who continue to be "non mobile friendly." Websites with long loading times, excessive use of advertisements or Flash-enabled pop-ups, and very tiny font and links can be a major hindrance for users.
