And lo, there shall come a day ... a day unlike any other. And the day is today. Let Marvel maniacs everywhere rejoice and celebrate the news: Marvel has released the first official trailer for the hugely anticipated "Avengers" movie
First off, The Avengers trailer looks good. No getting around that. All the superheroes from the previous interconnected flicks are on full display: Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America. In what might be the first post-credit teaser on a trailer, you'll get an all-too brief glimpse of the Hulk.
Also featured in the trailer are Nick Fury, Loki, Black Widow, Hawkeye and Agent Coulson. What's cool about see "The Avengers" trailer is that you can identify sequences previously seen in the rough footage leaked from the set. Some might find it to be a spoiler, but it's interesting to compare those unofficial set photos and videos with official "Avengers" trailer.
The action set pieces look impressive and seem to use as many practical special effects as CG effects. The scenes showing Tony Stark butting heads with Captain America hearken back to Cap's disdain for Tony's dad Howard Stark. Other scene feature what appears to be a downed spacecraft, and Thor attacking Captain America (likely the Thunder god is under the control of Loki.)
Overall, the trailer shows off a big budget film with slick effects and production design. The cast seems to have a good chemistry from what can be discerned in the two-minute trailer. But it does look like Robert Downey Jr and Samuel L. Jackson both have the charisma to stand out from the ensemble. Glad to see director Joss Whedon is letting the characters have lots of disagreements and reservations about working with each other.
So now that the first official "Avengers" trailer is here, everyone can count down the nanoseconds until the next one appears (or until the next batch of photos and videos leak from the set.) "The Avengers" movie opens May 4, 2012 and promises to be a high-octane action adventure experience.
