Water = Life hopefully your people choose well. Personally, I would regret losing the walleye but not as much as I would regret the loss of the humanity. Wait, let me think about that for a bit. At any rate, the roaches will endure.

Yep, in the not too distant future, water will be more valuable than oil, Susan. Greed has overtaken our country, without any government intervention, & with no thought to future generations.....

We had that before. Remember Silent Spring, the rivers that burned, acid rain stripping the paint off cars, bad air days when people died gasping for breath, dead lakes and waterways where nothing lived? Our past is our future. It is small comfort to know that the rich as well as the poor suffer the consequences of a poisoned earth.

Three Mile Island, W VA coal mining acid runoff, fracking for natural gas, the Colorado river runs dry before it reaches the ocean, plans to divert Great Lakes water to the southwest et cetera, et cenera.....

I remember when they took phosphates out of our detergents; housewives across the land were complaining that they wouldn't be able to get laundry clean enough. People were panicky about not being able to use DDT anymore but now we get to see eagles soar every winter. When I was young, there were so few eagles left that we thought that species would die out. Wasn't there some talk about going with turkeys instead once the eagles were gone? Funny story - a local family went up to Grafton with their kids to see the eagles feed. The mother got all bent out of shape because no one had warned her what an eagle feeding looked like. She had no idea that predators eat live things and was outraged that her kids got to see that happen.

I have a pair of nesting eagles near me, Susan. I see them head east to open country in the morning to hunt & see them return in the evening. They're very plentiful now in MN. I remember reading that the turkey was once considered as our national symbol. We have plenty of turkeys in Wash., DC now, lol.

I have a hawk in my neighborhood which preys on the squirrels. He landed just outside my kitchen window the other day and we watched each other for a while.

That's rare. Usually you can't get anywhere near them. The fact that you were inside & weren't moving toward him (or her) is probably why.
People looking to make more money off our natural resources are fast ruining this country. I have been fighting that tar sands pipeline for weeks now, but there seems to be no room for the opinions of one sane, retired old codger, when you are up against a bunch of loons intent on raping our planet for the almighty dollar. Sick of the shortsighted greed machine, and how....

I saw somewhere that the Koch Bros. are involved in the Keystone pipeline. Surprise, surprise. The Obama administration sure ain't helping any, either. They don't give a damn whose 3-acre ranchero they pollute.....
Try the whole Ogallala aquifer, our largest one, that sits under most of the midwest....
Not to mention Tar sands oil burns with about six times the carbon emissions as regular oil, so this oil isn't slated for the US, anyway, it is for export (imagine what that would do to your catalytic converter), And we wont even talk about the environmental nightmare its extraction is, in the first place, or the fact that a similar new pipeline that is now about a year old, has had 12 spills already in its short life

Seems that I read somewhere that the Ogallala aquifer was shrinking due to drought & excess irrigation? You can add to your opposition that the tribal lands of Canada's First Nation people are being decimated. Koch Bros has numerous pipelines in MN & they have been fined multiple times for spills. I think most of the Alaskan oil goes overseas, too - wherever the price is highest. Yet the GOP (And Obama) want to "Drill Baby, Drill."


Yes, it is, Kochs are involved in despoiling this earth in a myriad of ways, and no, Im not posting to Gather for a while, sick of the same morons with the same naive misguided misunderstanding of how the world even operates telling me I'm nuts, lol

We could start by investing in renewable energy - solar, wind, etc. as China has done, instead of just paying it lip service.

Jim - before you speak of renewable energy - solar, wind, you might want to investigate further. Without government grants they wouldn't be here and the wind farms are now in my back yard. Two already appear to be broken. And, they life span is about 20 years. Both (but most especially the solar - not provolatic (spelled wrong) - but the ones that are the most cost effective, use billions of tons of water per day (and the water can't be used again for drinking.

I'm just suggesting that everyone research this further before supporting green. Al Gore's making a fortune from it.

No doubt that more R & D is needed in renewables. The key is that they are RENEWABLE. In the long term, we have NO CHOICE but to use them.
China and other so called emerging economies have been selling cheap wind and solar set ups for years here, because big oil hasn't been that effective there at suppressing the industry, and therefor, a lot more good jobs that would help us, are gone, overseas, and doing quite well, without any government grants, at least from our government The life of your car isn't 20 years, nor is the life of a diesel or coal generator plant 20 years, but they can be rebuilt, all of them. Not exactly sure what solar and water have to do with each other, where did you get this stuff? Windfarms often idle generators, depending on their needs and the cost effectiveness of running them verses grid buys, and i doubt you will find one windfarm where all windmills are turning all the time, at least i have never observed that

That's horrible! They need to just quit that type of mining! I remember a mine like that when I lived in Utah and along with the pollution it's a terrible eyesore!

That was probably a copper mine too Toni. With the rapid increase in the price of copper, the rape of the earth will continue. People are collecting or stealing copper tubing to sell all over the place....
