How's your economy?

The problems in our economy did not come into being over night or with the election of President Obama. They are a by-product of our open market and a long permitted atmosphere of skirting the law and looking the other way, by those in Washington, Republicans and Democrats alike.

When you have a government that massively overspent and a congress that believed everyone deserves a home and bankers/investors that did whatever it takes to make that happen to appease congress for tax breaks you end up with this mess!
It is interesting that the Occupy Wall Street crowd is a bunch of liberals that want to blame everyone but government. They just can not bring themselves to point the finger where it needs to be pointed because of their beloved Obama! Government created and encouraged the environment that made this mess! Republicans and Democrats did it together!
As a side note I saw this video you might enjoy. The language is very strong but if you can take it it will make you LOL! It is a guy ranting about the government debt.

John this mess was long time coming. Don't forget the Reagan trickle down plan where the Republicans gave the rich huge tax breaks at the same time spending billions upon billions in no compete contracts given to their gronies. How about the same when Bush and his buddies were in control of Washington.

I was mearly trying to emphazize that the current trend does not fall squarly on the Obama Administration.

Essentially you are correct Kidno but I will take issue with a couple of points. The banks happily made loans to people who could not repay them because the government guaranteed the loans. There was no risk at all to the lenders! No arm twisting was required. The big investment banks were forced to take on some of the loans but in exchange they got preferential regulations that allowed them to rake in billions in revenue. The logic was the risk would be offset by the rewards. The proof of this is there have been no indictments! The government knows if they try to prosecute the investment banks they will go public (although with a little research anyone can find this out) with an all out campaign to show it was our government behind this whole disaster. Obama is in on the scam using deflection to cover democrats failures by placing blame on greedy wall street and wall street is not pushing back because the preferential treatment rules are still in place allowing the to continue to rake in billions. The investment banks will take the abuse knowing the public's attention span is short and this all will pass when the economy ever improves but to everyone's dismay is is not. Now Obama's class warfare attacks are starting to backfire and anyone watching the news or Youtube are starting to see the truth come out because the Occupy Wall Street groups are showing how blind following of Obama is making them look like fools. These people will soon turn their attention on Washington or go home. I bet they go home because they hope that the truth is wrong.

But I can not place the total blame on the democrats. The republicans had many opportunities over the years to fix the housing regulations but all they did was play lip service and never acted. So they were complicit in my opinion.

And it is not really capitalism vs communism. To me it is more of a basic difference in philosophy between people where one group (mostly Democrats) place equality over liberty and the Republicans weigh liberty over equality.

I heard a liberal on TV say the conservatives have never started a revolution. What!!!! Conservatives started the mother of all revolutions by writing the Declaration of Independence!

Things aren't perfect in Canada, but we are doing better than a lot of countries.

Prayer is good and needed, Carol. I wholeheartedly agree with many of those. You are brave to be in Italy in these days. Good you made it home okay. That would be one country I'd like to visit, for its' rich history, but I wouldn't think of that now even if I could afford the trip.

Dems/Progressives and unions lending themselves to the Wall Street protests is a very bad thing. Very bad. The Left's goal, per Steven Lerner's admission last year (of SEIU infamy), is to collapse America's economy. That is spoken clearly as well through protesters who have no idea what they think they could accomplish by protesting. They are the "Useful Idiots" spoken of in Communism.

Americans need to be deciding exactly what their stand will be in the face of the economic collapse that Dems, Progressives and unions are vying for. I hope all are prepared. The time is now.

My husband was on unemployment in 2007 and in 2009. In 2009 we had to make a lot of changes and our lives changed a lot. I don't think we'll be where we were in 2006 for a long long time. Also in 2006, 2007 and 2009 and 2010 I had surgery.......... In 2008 a car hit out home. So we have had a lot of setbacks..

I worry too about our country and other people. I am grateful my husband is working, but I worry he might be laid off again from another job.

Heather, God bless you guys, you have had some tough struggles. "Don't worry for the morrow for today has enough troubles of its' own." That is especially true today. We can only do what we can do, the rest is in God's hands.

Thanks Fren! It is in God's hands, you are so right. And as much as I like where we were living back then, we moved twice since 2009, I do like where I am right now... I can see how God brought good out of it. My Daughter is doing so much better in this school and has more friends here. Sometimes it's all how you look at it I guess. :)

I am doing fine. That's a product of paying almost no interest (except when I bought a house and paid those mortgages off early) and living well within my means. I am rich in that I can buy whatever I want but that's mostly because I want very little and what I do want is inexpensive. I am also quite healthy. So my good fortune and cheap life style has made life quite nice for me.

It is a struggle for me to make it month to month

I am pretty darn glad to live in Germany. We managed this crisis pretty well and are out of it as one of the quickest.

It stinks on ice!!! There is no loyalty anymore... none at all. It used to be that you gave your all to a company (missed out on the important things in life such as family functions) and they rewarded you with a job for years to come. It's not so anymore. As soon as you do something that a higher up doesn't like, you're canned. No explanation, just gone. Because we are an 'at will' employment state, the most you will get is unemployment. That is if you can show them you were fired unjustly.

To get hired to do the same job you did for years, you now have to take a GIANT pay cut. So, you're doing the same job, paying the same bills all for less. YET, you feel grateful you have a job...

It is awful here where I live. My hubby hasn't been able to get a job since he got laid off over a year ago
