A secret order of monks hides within a high mountain in Turkey. Few know of their existence, and only a selected few among the brethren within the Citadel know their terrible secret. Dark, mysterious rituals surround the Sacrament they keep hidden from the world. One young monk discovers the secret when he is inducted into the “elite” of the group, and flees for his life so that he can share the truth with the outside world! Sadly, he must choose to leap to his death in order to avoid recapture by the reclusive order.
Yet, he left clues behind . . . clues only one person in the world can decipher. It's a race against time, and against evil, as the players in this suspenseful story each work towards a resolution. While a power-hungry abbot will do anything to protect the secret within the mountain, an equally ancient group seeks to finally bring down the cult-like monastery and unlock its centuries-old riddle. They yearn to uncover old texts locked away in the mountain library, filled with information the monks do not want the public to know. Meanwhile, a detective searches for the monk's only living relative – a twin sister. Liv is the key to end this ages-old battle! How will this spiritual warfare play out?
Simon Toyne gives us an exciting adventure that is very difficult to put down! The story is intriguing and philosophical. Not only is it an action-packed, fast-paced thriller, but it reminds us that some of the stories we take for granted as being truth may not be all that they seem. The book was published recently, on September 6, 2011, and is the author's debut novel. It is sure to put him on the literary map. ISBN 978-0-06-209181-9. No suggested retail price was available on my copy, but you can look for the book through HarperCollins and you are sure not to be disappointed!
