So we've all seen and marvelled at (pun intended) all the unofficial footage and photos leaked from The Avengers movie set. Maybe Marvel Studios decided it's time to get serious and show those amateurs how the big boys promote their films.
Case in point: Brand spanking new cast photos of six Avengers all looking into the camera with proper comic book grimness. (The way these superheroes never crack a smile, you'd think they were supermodels.) Although you can't see much of the costumes, we can still get a better idea of how they'll appear onscreen.
Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) looks like she's wearing an updated version of the outfit seen in
Iron Man 2. This time she sports a pair of pistols, evidently meant to be her signature weapon. (She's still got those wrist-stingers from the comics, though.) Hawkeye shows a bit more of his costume design, complete with SHIELD logo.
Tony Stark looks like he's trying to hypnotize us (or maybe he's thinking about Black Widow), while Captain America actually does look seriously patriotic. Thor? Well, it's hard to imagine how they made the God of Thunder seem even more blond and blue-eyed, but they did. If The Avengers thing doesn't work out for Chris Hemsworth, maybe he'll become the designated successor to Fabio.
The oddest photo of the bunch is Bruce Banner. For one thing, there's no depiction of the Hulk, which is disappointing. But Mark Ruffalo looks like he's trying too hard to look like a mad scientist. (He's also beefier than previous incarnations of the character.) Maybe they're pushing the Jekyll/Hyde angle. At any rate, Banner does sport some trademark purple clothing.
The actors add their thoughts about the characters they portray in The Avengers movie, which opens May 4, 2012.
