Tim Gunn Settles It~Kirstie Alley "Not A Size...

I was compelled to write this post, Sorry Kirstie, But This Is Not A Size 4, not because of Kirstie Alley's successful weight loss, but of celeb news reports and posts here on Gather that claim she's whittled down to a size 4. Well, none other than Tim Gunn of Project runway fame has weighed in(no pun intended, well maybe!), and emphatically states, "She's not a size four!" Gunn further added, "There is a phenomenon out there right now that I call the lying deceptive shell game of vanity sizing." He went on to explain an experiment he did comparing the differences in sizing standards of the past several years.

"We took a size 8 dress from 1980 one from 1990 and one from 2000 and compared them. And the difference was two and a half inches in the waist alone!"

So there you have it from one of the leading experts in the fashion industry, and while lamenting that people are just too size conscious, he doesn't hesitate to say that Kirstie "looks fabulous!"

I saw something about the size comparisons on TV a few months ago. I was amazed at the differences from just a few decades ago! It boggles the mind how some get so obsessed with what size they are. If I feel good about how I look in something, I don't care what size it is. Personally, I think she looks great and she has to feel good about all that hard work it took to get to this point.

I have to admit, when I was younger I was pretty size conscious~I wouldn't buy something if it meant I had to buy a larger size.

I was that way too. It led to a very long battle with anorexia for me. It took me a long,long time to get to the point where that little tag didn't bother me anymore.

Wow, that's heavy~with me, it was just not buying anything over a size 10, even if I had gained a few lbs. Now I have no choice... :-)

Vanity Sizing is just plain stupid. They are making a lot of clothing with vanity sizing. I stick to names I know that are not designer names and that way I know that the sizing is correct. The companies want people to think that they are skinnier than they really are. That is just ridiculous. I don't care if Kirstie is a 4 or not. She looks wonderful. Whatever she is doing must be working.

Maybe that's why 2/3 of the country is overweight~if they were fitting into the "same" sizes...

I've read more than once that clothing manufacturers in a marketing ploy often play games with women's sizes. I believe in most cases it was from countries with little regulation and known for knock-offs as well, etc. In order to boost sales over a competitor they will purposely label clothes as smaller sizes than they traditionally or really are, knowing that very often if it comes to deciding between choices, the smaller size usually wins.

oh I know.. one time I was watching a tv show from the late Anna Nicole, where she asked the sales clerk if they had a dress she wanted in a SIZE 6! And this was when she was easily as size 22. lol I laughed so hard b/c she was straight faced serious about it!

Didn't know she was that heavy~she got pretty plump, but she was also 5'10" so she had room (body) to play with. She also had one of the most incredible faces I've ever seen on a human!
