Demi Lovato credits rehab for saving her life. In a recent interview with Ellen DeGeneres, the Skycraper singer said she might be dead if not for the extensive in-patient program she attended.
According to Hollywood Life, Demi says her personal life caused her professional life to spiral, and pretty soon everything--her entire life--was completely out of control. Hospitalized and treated for bipolar disorder, self-mutilation by cutting, eating disorders, and issues with drugs and alcohol--the now 19-year-old was walking a very dangerous path. She was very lucky to have parents who intervened--putting her into a rehab program before it was too late.
Demi Lovato says it was a "negative breakdown" that made a permanent impact on her life. She sees that breakdown now in a new light--viewing it as a blessing of sorts--saying she never would have entered rehab if the breakdown hadn't occurred.
Not all young celebrities are as willing to share their serious personal issues in the way that Demi Lovato did during her interview with Ellen DeGeneres. She did so in hopes that even just one troubled young person can perhaps avoid the perils and pitfulls she fell so deeply into. Demi's interview with Ellen is scheduled to air on Ellen's show on September 20th.
Demi Lovato unequivocally touts the merits of rehab. She has no regrets about it whatsoever.
"If I had never gone into the treatment. I don't know if one, I'd even be sitting here today. Two, if I'd be alive today," she says.
May her refreshing honesty and her willingness to generously share her heart and trials so openly urge others who face similar troubles to get the help they may desperately need.
