'Vampire Diaries' 'The Hybrid' preview: Klaus continues to plan, Elena to search

The Vampire Diaries' third season continues next week with episode 2, "The Hybrid." Stefan's still with Klaus, who has plans to make more like himself. Meanwhile, Elena has found out that Damon's been keeping things from her, and Caroline's in a dangerous situation with Tyler's mother. What does the second episode of the season hold?

"Klaus puts a plan in motion that will give him even more power, but even with the unwilling participation of werewolf Ray Sutton, things don't go exactly as Klaus had planned. Damon and Alaric reluctantly go along with Elena's new strategy to find Stefan, leading Damon into a dangerous fight with an unexpected enemy. Jeremy turns to Matt for help as he continues to try to understand what the ghosts from his past want from him. Unaware that Caroline is in need of his help, Tyler faces an emotional confrontation with his mother."

The Vampire Diaries promo (below) doesn't show any of what's going on with Caroline, Tyler, and his mother, but instead focuses on Elena's determination to find her MIA boyfriend and those helping her. Klaus is continuing to work on his plan to build a hybrid army, while Elena's plan seems to be to find a pack of werewolves. Damon and Alaric are with her when they come face-to-face with at least one, and it may not be in Damon's best interest to taunt it with, "Here, doggy doggy," considering his history with bites. It's not like it would be easy for them to get their hands on the cure again, but it's doubtful that the show will go down that road again.

While Alaric may have decided to move back home, he is still there to help Elena out in her search for Stefan, no matter where that's taking her—and this time it's taking her to werewolves. Just what is Klaus' plan for all those hybrids he wants to create? Does it ultimately bring him back to Mystic Falls? That seems very plausible, but if it does, what would happen when Stefan sees Elena again? He already stepped out to call her even if he didn't say anything. Stefan may have re-embraced his Ripper side, but would that change if he saw his girlfriend again?
