My brother Bud brought home this guy
He was cute but not my type
I wanted more sophistication
I listened to the hype
He was 16 and I a year younger
He had eyes for me at the start
But flipped him off for someone else
I thought I was so smart
Then the war took all the boys away
Bill fought in the Pacific
I wrote V mails to nine young men
Thought them all terrific
Bill sent me home a picture
Wrote on the back this line
Hang this on the wall and throw rocks on it
I thought has he lost his mind
Well, I kept it of course with all the rest
Had really quite a collection
There were no boys at home at all
No chance for any rejection
The war ended and they all came home
One by one I got a call
In a couple of months of time
I think I'd seen them all
Bill hung around with my brother Bud
Just wouldn't go away
But I had other plans
Of course they went astray
He had a car, this guy Bill
A 1940 Buick convertible
Now this made him useful
Gosh, now I just feel terrible
I used this man, I must confess
But he didn't even care
He wanted to be my guy so bad
I wish I had played fair
Well you know how this story ends
For I took a second look
This wonderful man I ignored for years
Caught me with his hook
First impressions are often wrong
Until you know the person inside
There is a difference in what you think
When you heart is opened wide
I didn't want sophistication
I wanted love that would last
I found it and enjoyed it with Bill
Time flew by so fast
I love you Bill
