Fox News is the biggest right-wing propaganda machine in the media, and that was made even more obvious after one of their morning commentators blasted atheism. Oh, the network is also publicly pumping some christian film about the WTC Cross. It seems that this network just doesn't care what groups it insults and degrades—groups of Americans, mind you.
This morning on Fox News, commentator Brian Kilmeade made a biting comment about Atheists in the United States. His comment focused on the American Atheists group, who are suing over the WTC Cross at the Ground Zero Memorial:
This organization is causing trouble on this in particular. You gotta feel that they don't have much to stand on.
Kilmeade cited a Rasmussen poll of 1,000 potential voters indicating more than 70 percent of Americans support the WTC Cross. So the point of view on Fox News is basically that this isn't a big deal and atheists are attacking American ideals. That's not the case.
The common misconception lately is that the WTC Cross isn't a piece of christian symbolism. Fox and its commentators are trying to spread the idea that Atheists are the ones making something religious of this item. It is, after all, nothing but a girder from the 9/11 wreckage.
However, this christian cross became such when it was consecrated by a Catholic priest. It was literally blessed to be a part of the christian culture and has been used as a piece of spiritual symbolism. Hopefully the American Atheists and those who stand behind them prove successful in this lawsuit. Until then, the idiot-machine on Fox News will continue misleading dim-witted Americans.

Other symbols that we can find in the WTC debris include the Islamic crescent, and the mess of girders that look like the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
I assume these symbols, along with any others found in the debris, will be displayed together?
so what?
does that stop any other religion from erecting whatever symbol they want to erect?
nope - not at all.
we have freedom OF religion, not freedom FROM religion - dont like a symbol or a message?
dont listen, and dont look at it.
muslim, jewish, buddist, and atheist messages dont bother me, so why should a christian message bither you?
thought we were trying to be un-biased, un-bigoted, and un-prejudiced.
guess i was wrong - that only applies to those that agree with you.

how is saying "This organization is causing trouble on this in particular. You gotta feel that they don't have much to stand on." blasting anyoine - it is simply saying the group is making a big deal on the issue - which is true, and that the speaker doesnt feel they have much to stand on!
That is not blasting, he did not call anyone a name, did not say they were wrong, did not even say he disagreed with the group!
it is not propoganda, it is truth (to his opinion).
no where in your article does HE say it is anti american-ideals.
no where does it insult, or degrade the group protesting, it simply says, they made a big deal (which suing over it is a big deal), and that they have no case.
your accusations, innuendoes, mistatements, misquotes, distortions, and self agrandizing interpetations, amount to nothing but lies.
Where exactly is this cross supposed to be placed? At the memorial site? On the new tower? If it is the tower, then I don't see it as an issue since the tower is a privately owned structure. If it is the memorial, I am sure there are a lot of private funds donated to it to make it a quisigovernmental site. This would indicate that there might be some wiggle room on placing the cross there.
Second, how is this a symbol of hope. The victims of 9/11 were victims of religion. How does honoring religion honor the victims of religion? If you want to honor the victims, put up pictures of them, maybe a small plaque for each person, telling us who they were, what they dreamed of, who they loved, who loved them. Honor the victims. Don't put up religious symbols honoring some god who couldn't be bothered to lift a finger as they jumped out of windows to their death!
They were the victims of Islam, not Christianity.
"If you want to honor the victims, put up pictures of them, maybe a small plaque for each person, telling us who they were, what they dreamed of, who they loved, who loved them. Honor the victims."
The WTC cross was a makeshift memorial. Messages, pictures, etc., were placed on it and at it by rescuers and first responders. That is why it is symbolic and has much more meaning than just a Christian symbol.
"Don't put up religious symbols honoring some god who couldn't be bothered to lift a finger as they jumped out of windows to their death!"
I have no doubt a lot of praying went on before those people jumped. Probably even some atheists changing their minds at the last minute in the face of death.
Good point, Islam is bad, Christianity is good, right?
So I am correct that they are victims of religion. If I were god, I'd make sure that everyone agreed on who I was, and what I required of my believers, and what my plan was. No one would disagree about it, because I would make it painfully obvious. There would be no atheists. No one would be flying airplanes into buildings because they disagreed with another group about who I was.
"I have no doubt a lot of praying went on before those people jumped. Probably even some atheists changing their minds at the last minute in the face of death."
What a horrible god you worship. Even as they begged him (prayed) while jumping to their death, he was able to save them, but decided to just let them die! Or maybe he doesn't exist?
I don't recall seeing any Christians on the list of the attackers that was released.
