Labor Day 2011 is Monday, September 5. The weekend usually means the end of summer, which makes it your last chance to swim and do other fun summertime things in many locations. What is closed for the Federal holiday and what is open?
First of all, Federal offices including post offices and Social Security offices are closed. Banks will also be closed for Labor Day 2011. Most cities will likely shut down their municipal offices for Monday. Most children get a break from schools, which they love.
While many places will close in observance of the day, others are open and hoping for huge crowds. Retailers always use this holiday as an occasion to have huge Labor Day sales. They hope that people will use their day off to catch up on their shopping, and most years it works. While this day is no Black Friday, it is still a good day for retail stores.
In conjunction with that, you will likely find most restaurants open for the holiday, so you do not have to worry about where to eat if you are out and about on Monday. Other possible closings include gyms, churches, daycare, and other organizations.
Even though some things will be closed on Monday, it should not keep you from having a great Labor Day this year.
