When Grey's Anatomy returns for its two-hour season 8 premiere later this month, April is going to have to adjust to her new promotion. It'll be time to see how she and the others handle her in this new position.
April, the new chief resident
It's a good thing Sarah Drew's pregnancy isn't being written into Grey's Anatomy this season—April's going to have enough on her plate as it is! Drew talked to Entertainment Weekly about what's coming up for her character: "She struggles a bit. I think if you were giving awards for being the best chief resident based on your organizational skills, she'd definitely win the prize." However, what April really needs is for everyone to respect her, and that may take some time. She does talk to Jackson and "shows him how much she's doubting the position" and talks to Bailey as well. Apparently April's "constantly worried she's going to get fired." Will April last as chief resident all season, or will she end up getting replaced by someone else? If she settles into the role and doesn't struggle too much, she should do fine, but it sounds like it may definitely take her some time.
Any love for April?
Just because April's not going to be pregnant doesn't mean she can't have a love interest, and while it may seem like something could happen with her and Jackson, Drew explains it as more of a "brother-sister relationship where he knows her better than anyone else does." Besides, Jackson is still with Lexie, and since Mark appears to be backing down, that could last. However, there are "plans...being made to give Drew's character a love interest," but it has not yet been revealed whom that would be. It seems like that would come up a little later in the season, hopefully once April has settled into her chief resident role so she's not distracted on the job.
Are you looking forward to seeing April as chief resident on Grey's Anatomy, or had you hoped another doctor would have gotten the job at the end of last season?
Grey's Anatomy has been nominated for a Primetime Emmy. The Emmys air September 18th on FOX.
