Engagement rumors are nothing new for Irina Shayk and Cristiano Ronaldo, but there's one making the rounds today that seems to be sticking. But is it true?
The social networking and micro-blogging site Tumblr began bubbling over with congratulatory messages for soccer superstar Cristiano Ronald after a link announcing his engagement to the model and Sports Illustrated covergirl surfaced this morning.
Cristiano Ronaldo, Real Madrid's star striker and former World Footballer of the Year, has been dating Shayk (full name Irina Shaykhlislamova), a Russian model, for just over a year. The two met while shooting ads for Armani. The pair have been inseparable since, and recently have been spotted wearing matching silver bands.
According to the Tumblr source, Irina Shayk has been sporting an engagement ring, which has prompted speculation that Ronaldo had proposed.
Ronaldo's (and Shayk's!) fans will be relieved to know that this rumor is almost certainly that: a rumor. Nothing more. The original report of their engagement completely lacked sources, only quoting the ever-useful "friend" of the couple, who is reported to have said that Ronaldo is "very happy with Irina." No announcement came from either Cristiano Ronaldo or Irina, and one one is one record with any information about their relationship status.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Irina Shayk have never been quiet about their relationship--the pair is often seen at events and spending time together at Ronaldo's home in Madrid. Surely if he had proposed recently there'd be more than one poorly sourced article mentioning the fact. Nevermind that the timing is almost impossible--Cristiano Ronaldo has been in Portugal all week training with the Portuguese national team ahead of their Euro 2012 qualifying match with Cyprus on Friday.
That doesn't leave a lot of time for proposing.
