Fran’s story was set in Virginia Beach, VA during the late fifties and the early sixties.

She had no idea what was in store for her when she marries her sweetheart and becomes a fish wife.
Her high-spirited strength moves her forward as she attempts to conquer each obstacle that life throws in her path until the fight of her life, when Fran loses almost everything in the horrific Ash Wednesday Storm of 1962.

Christine, you have to know what each publisher wants and do the best you can. Networking is a must. Sometimes there are not enough hours in a day. Publish everywhere you can. I started out in a critique class and it helped me tremendously.

I noticed that your books are eBooks and seem to be inexpesive. Did you publish them yourself or though a publisher?

What is the process a writter does to get their books published in e-book form.

Do you think that e-books are the books of the future?

Do you see yourself writing a novel in traditional form?

yes, Roger, I do think epub is the future. I know...we all want to hold our books, touch and feel them. But I hope to be where the action is :) I have written four novels, a short story book and two childrens books.

Van, I started writing poetry in elementary school. Later in my twenties I started to write a novel and some short stories, but when agents started asking me for money I stopped until six years ago. I haven’t stopped since.

You seem to use the internet a lot--which internet sites d'you find most helpful for marketing your writing, getting feedback, and making connections? Are all your published works in the 6S series? I really was not aware of these books till I did a little background search on you. I have downloaded some of them and find them facinating.
Can you tell us about how this series came about? Do you still write for this series?
I notice that all sales income goes to a group connected with the series. Does that mean you receive no royalties on these books personally?

It can be anywhere from $150 up. It includes continental breakfast and lunch each day. If you're from out of town it will be more because of lodging. Most good conferences have a lot going on. Classes and workshops, editors, agents and top authors.

Six Sentences is a site I have been on for several years now. Anyone can join. We write stroies in six sentences. Some are really fantastic. I have also done three Six - Sixes. Where 6S published mini books of six of my sixes. Some of us critique each other and others just read.

I went to Publishers and Editors. Did a lot of research. Went through the long lists and got frustrated. Then Last year I sent a novel to a publisher, but it was only 45,000 words. He asked if I would consider adding 30,000 words to it. I tried to redo it and could only add 3,000. I try to be a succinct writer and know I won't be able to do what he asks. I sent him another query for a 80,000 word manuscript. He said it was too dark for the U.S. (ugh, too dark, US) I don't want to add a lot of purple prose to any of my stories/novels. In my opinion if you send them a novel that has 80-100,000 words, they will tell you to take out 15-20,000 words. Personally, I was ready to give up. I am hoping that the ebooks will be different. You can't cut the TV on without hearing someone has written a book.

I am a member of two writer's guilds in my home area and attend a couple of others occasionally when I can. I very much enjoy them and the fellowship involved.

The Gather community is filled readers looking for authors that they can connect. I have received several email from authors following a live chat. They say their sales have gone up.

Jeanette,

Do you have dreams that wake you up and you have to immediately write them down for a story?

Do you keep a journal of your thoughts?

I don't keep a journal, but I have been known to write things down on table cloths in restaurants and anywhere else I am and keep the notes in a drawer until I can get to them. Yes I wake all hours and have to write things down or I will forget.

@ Larry mostly I just sit down and type on the computer, but I do have notes.

Sandy, at this time I don't want to take three to four years to get published. This is new for me but I think it's what I want to do for now.

there aRE A FEW OF MY STORIES I WROTE OUT BY HAND THEN TYPED THEM ON THE COMPUTER. mOST OF MY STORIES I just start writing what come to me at the time. I have a lot of storied started and not finished. doing that.
