Fashion designer Betsey Johnson celebrated her 69th birthday with star celebs style, including hosting a party complete with pink cupcakes, her doing the splits for the cameras, and her new pink tutu inspired perfume launch.
The fragrance, named Too Too, is said to celebrate the joy of youth itself more than to glorify the celebrity teen star celebs, and young aspiring fashionista divas sure to love wearing it.
The pink theme birthday bash was a celebrity birthday party for a celebrity senior, but festivities delighted even the youngest of guests. Hot pink icing topped the celebs cupcakes with the black lace words Betsey Johnson scrolled dressing the tasty pastries up. Betsey herself wore a pink dress over leggings; her attire fit her personality and looked both youthful and fun.
Glamazon Diaries shared this about the new fragrance, which her beauty editor party guests and personal friends claim is a direct reference to the whimsical personality of the designer herself:
"Too Too, an ode to young, lively and free-spirited girls, is a fresh scent with a sparkling blend of floral and fruity aromas derived from notes of mandarin, sweet passion fruit, ginger and strawberry. The perfume gets its feminine mid-notes from Bulgarian rose and jasmine; and its base with patchouli, sandalwood and vanilla."
According to the fashionista website, "The [perfume bottle], in the shape of the bodice of a ballerina in a pink and black tutu, [was] inspired by vintage Schiapparelli [perfume] bottles as well as Jean Paul Gaultier's iconic glass bottles [for his designer fragrances]."
Showing off a picture of the fit celebrity senior doing the splits (a yoga position), the celeb and fashion gossip website showcased the lively look and vivacious personality of the designer.
Betsey Johnson recently told the US fashion press she was delighted with Kate Middleton as a 21st century fashion icon, and is tickled by her choice to wear an Alexander McQueen design for her wedding dress at the royal wedding as well.
She was quoted by NY Fashion to have defended Kate Middleton and her fashion choices openly in public by saying, "She's so beautiful and I think she's handling the whole kit and kaboodle so well. I appreciate their hard try and all of their efforts to attempt to have a more 'real' lifestyle..."
Her comments came after rival designer Vivienne Westwood's second round of negative comments about the new duchess and bride of Prince William were published.
Does this defense of the conservative princess mean that Betsey Johnson will start designing more conservative and tailored fashions?
Not likely.
Take one look at the new perfume bottle design for the fragrance Too Too, and you can tell the diva will continue to design clothes with a sense of whimsy for as long as she's around.
