Vanessa Minnillo and Nick Lachey recently married in the Bahamas, in the kind of tropical island dream wedding most women would envy. And the bride learned a lot in the process—secrets she would like to share with the world, says Us magazine. With other brides, anyway. The wedding planner can only suggest. The bride has to make the choices—for what will hopefully be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Some of Vanessa Minnillo's ideas are very celeb-oriented—and maybe out of reach for the non-celeb wedding. Have more than one photographer, for instance. A great idea, but pricey. And what normal bride can match the television cameras following Vanessa Minnillo and Nick Lachey around. Not practical.
Another secret to make the venue personal—bring your own linens and chargers
—place plates—for the dinner. Can you imagine lugging all that luggage to the Caribbean? Might work, though, for a local wedding. But what will you do, later, with all those pricey tablecloths? Or fuchsia napkins? This celebrity pair had personalized beach towels embroidered as favors, for all the guests. (There were only 35.) Personalized gifts could be a nightmare for four hundred guests. But an unexpected give-back is a lovely idea.
Vanessa Minnillo recommends trying on several styles of dress, even if you know what you want. It will be fun, and you might be surprised by the perfect gown. Add a splash of color, she says, but not too much. "I didn't put my matron of honor in a fuchsia dress."
Remember the groom. It's his wedding, too. "After all, it's both of your day," the Wipeout star says. "Nick had great suggestions." Note: If you think all of your fiancé's suggestions are stupid, maybe you should rethink the whole thing! She goes on to suggest some wedding-detail-free date time—wine and a weekend away, for instance, with no discussion about cummerbund colors. Do something special to remind him that you love him. Too many grooms get lost in the chaos.
Finally—and this is a novel secret—remember to have fun. This is your day. Ignore the glitches and enjoy your wedding day. Vanessa Minnillo definitely enjoyed hers!
