In support of Gather's authors - Patricia Gilliam - the Hannaria Series

After reading piles of really badly written books that I downloaded on my Kindle usually with pages and pages of fill, I decided I’d rather support the Gather’s authors. Romance novels are now turning me off. The last one I read was pages and pages of hot sweaty wanna be sex, but of course she stayed a virgin. Even the fairy king was tall dark and handsome (aren’t they supposed to be little people?). I’ve sampled a few of Gather’s authors and so far, the writing is wonderful.

Patricia Gilliam has just busted my beer budget until I get another pay check (which may be some time from now as I own my company and I’m the last to get a pay check).

I read Books 1 through 3 of the Hannaria Series and it got me into trouble. Once I realized that each chapter was narrated by a different character, I was enchanted. Lost sleep, but work off, failed to cook supper for my better half, etc. If you like sci-fi, I truly recommend this book. She’s published an ebook that can be downloaded on a Kindle. Today I HAVE to do laundry and MUST mop the floors. The spinning and weaving artists are coming in on Tuesday and I don’t want to hear these comments ever again.

Well, considering she was in love with a werewolf, vampire, ghouls and other things, staying a virgin was a good idea. But, it only took me about 1.5 hours to read the book because I did quick page after page passing up the naughties. What you think because I'm an old skinny lady I can't read naughties?

Kindles are cool, Pam. I have a B & N Nook that my kids gave me for Father's Day. My peepers are goin' & now I can read easily again since I can adjust the font size on my Nook e-reader.

Jim-Jack, I didn't know you'd gotten a reader. Thank god for my Kindle. I was really falling into deeper depression because I just couldn't comfortably read and I love reading. Smart kids for giving you a Nook. YAY for them.

Hey, Pam, would you like to read the diary of a slave woman? True story, no real editing (she was gifted and, thankfully, illegally taught to read and write). It captivated me.

Pam, the diary is called "Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl Written by Herself". If you find you like that, you might also like "Letters of a Woman Homesteader". I loved this one, too, and was disappointed when the letters came to an end.

I often download Kindles and read them on my iPad — but only if I'm traveling. I much prefer the feel of a book, and I don't like to carry the weight on a trip. All in all, it works out quite well.

P.s. You can get Lisa Brackman's Red Rock Tiger on Kindle for 3.19 ish. It just went into paperback with a 50,000 print run. She started the Wombat Writers on Gather and it is a most excellent read.

I've heard about her book quite a few times. Unfortunately, her book's no longer at the lower price (I found out 1 day too late) and since Patricia Gilliam broke my beer budget, I'll have to settle for the sample for now. Sooner or later I'm going to read it. I even e-mailed her so that she'd let me know if she put it back on sale.

You guys are all great - not afraid to promote some one else. Thanks.

Too bad you daughter isn't near us. So, what type of fiber does she spin and does she raise her own animals? Out here, Alpacas are the thing. Talk about expensive. Just to start raising them, you're looking at a good $20,000.00. I think it's just a fad and have no interest in raising them. But, I have to admit - Norman, the Llama did kiss me a few times and I wanted to bring him home with me.

My daughter buys roving when she feels she can afford it. There are folks around here who raise camelids but, as you say, Pam, the fiber is expensive. When she's not buying, she shops like I used to for chess sets: look, dream, walk away.

John - if she's interested, I know a woman that has a llama protection farm. I also know quite a few owners of alpaca farms. If she's interested, I could give her the contacts. She may be able to buy roving relatively inexpensive that way. Some of my friends are having a hard time moving their products. The spinning group is coming in Tuesday, so let me know if she wants those contacts.

Ask her if she's interested in skirting, washing and carding. If she buys it in the raw she'd save a lot of money. But, it's a really dirty job and shipping includes all the dirt.

I'll talk to her again, Pam. There's a local lady who said she would give some to my daughter if she was willing to do those things. I don't know if they have communicated yet or not. (I bought a pair of socks from her. There is a consortium; the growers supply the fiber, others do the prep work, others the spinning, and others the knitting, then they share in the marketing.)

I too like the Gather authors. Gather is full of talented writers. I have a B&N Nook that I sometimes download a book on, but I still read real books. I purchase a lot of them at the half-price book store and they are cheaper than downloading on the Nook.

I just read one of Tracy Fabre's books and when I receive her permission, I plan on posting an article about it. Just wish I knew what I was doing as far as notifying my friends. I'll figure it out.

lOL! You never need permission to post a book review and the author always appreciates a good review. You can ping the author and let her know that you posted a review of her book if you wish and I know she'll be appreciative. Post the article to all your groups that you have joined and all your friends will see it when it comes up in the feeds. Some groups reach more people than others but even just posting it without selecting a group will put it on the Gather network for all to read.

No, I don't get tired of receiving multiple listings of the same post because there are not that many of the groups who do the mass email thing. Most of them just show up on the feed. I absolutely know where my delete button is on my laptop (don't know much more about the laptop other than this, LOL). Your reply to a post will only show up in their post and also only once in the friends feed, so you will not be annoying anyone. LOL! You are doing so well and I think you already know more than I do about playing on Gather ... LOL ... I'm a computer dunce. I'm happy that you think I'm wonderful and I think you are wonderful too and your sister is also wonderful. We need to start a new group "The Gather Self Admiration Society" ... LOL! .... we can all tell each other how wonderful we are LOL!
