Chris I see their confusion as a double negative. If they truly didnt know what constitutes an earmark they are too ignorant to represent..if they did know and did it anyway they are hypocrits.

Look, instead of complaining about hypocrisy of the right, just gather the left wing troops and all of you vote for TEA party candidates. Once there is a TEA party president and a TEA party super majority in congress, you can once and for all see if they intend to keep their promises and if they truly are hypocrites since they will have complete power. Right now they control nothing. If they don't keep their promises they will be seen as liars and you will see a giant landslide victory for democrats in the following elections.

I would never have imagined that giving democrats that kind of power would have worked so well for my side. Let's not forget that Pelosi ran on ending earmarks in 2006 and she was given a chance. Obama ran on fiscal responsibility, ending earmarks, and ending wars and was given a chance. He even guaranteed that he would sign comprehensive immigration reform into law by the end of his first year in office and with a democratic filibusterer super majority in congress he didn't even look at it. It was one of his many "let me be clear" finger pointing assurances that turned out to be horse crap. Now he is blaming republicans. I didn't see that one coming.

Look you guys wrote the book on hypocrisy. Pointing out a speck in somebody elses eye when you have a log in your own is the very hypocrisy you claim to hate. Shame on you.

Also, just so you know, unlike so many people on your side, I don't think your beliefs are evil and I know you are a good person who just disagrees with my role of government ideology. But if you guys spent half the time going after the people you support when they flat out lie and turn their backs on their promises, maybe more could have been done with all that power you were given. Instead you were and still are carrying their water and doing their dirty work for nothing in return.

Jeff, you and the TEA party are wrong. We are not taxed enough. That's the problem. We got into a habit of believing the tax decreases mean economic growth. That's simply not true. Taxes increased in the 1990s and the economy boomed. Your fundamental principle of tax decreases resulting in sufficient revenue to replace themselves is also wrong. Proven by Reagan's tax cuts. These systems are complicated and the TEA Party approach of simply making them simple by cutting all government spending is not only wrong but reprehensible.

Are there Democrats who have been hypocritical and wrongheaded? Yes. Have Democrats held up the vote to raise the debt ceiling in the past? Yes. Were they wrong? Yes. But that doesn't mean that another wrong can make everything right.

America has a spending problem, it's true. And we need some deep and long term reform to correct this problem. But America also has a revenue problem. And we need some tax reform to return revenue to the 33% - 35% of GDP (the rate it sat at for most of the 1990s). Revenue was at 26% of GDP in 2009 and only 28% in 2010. These low percentages are what happens when you rely on low rates with many deductions. As long as business is booming, you retain what appears to be a high percentage, but that percentage is illusory because the moment the economy turns down, revenue plummets (a drop of 7% between 2008 and 2009).

Right now, the TEA Party is using their leverage with Republicans to halt all action that might prevent an oncoming crisis. This doesn't endear them to people like me who would like to see our 401k's eventually go back up. If we default on our obligations, we will be looking at a new depression. That will be the gift that the TEA Party hands down to our descendents.

I am not particularly concerned with much of the worry over some of the cuts, 401k's the stock markets tumbling, etc...(I personally agree with some of those wanting to starve the beast our government has become). There are some aspects of our governments power that does need to be cut back from it's over-reach into our personal lives, and much that,"regulation has wrought" needs to be ammended, as it doesn't really do what it promised when first sold to the people. It was written by big corperate for bog corperates advantage over possable competition, effectively destroying real commerce and replacing it with a facade.

I am more concerned with the social agenda of the religious fruit loops invasive nature, and their attempts to establish a theoracy, and the continued overseas nation building, expansion of wars, etc...

I view the Dems and the Repubs as the left and right hand of the same corrupt body with has the same aganda.

I do not care to go back to the pre-2008 situation. It was/is corrupt, and lead to what we have, now.

I actually agree with much of what you said, Dorothy. I disagree about probable outcome of a failure to raise the debt ceiling, but I can agree to disagree. I absolutely agree about the dangers of a theocracy.

Actually, Lori, they were missing a lot of things:

common sense, integrity, empathy, responsibility, historical perspective, intelligence, just to name a few.

Alas, the tea party is doomed to failure. They're like a barking dog: lots of noise, nothing else.

Now, be kind to dogs, they are better than the Tea-bag folks. Dogs are more like babies, they cry/bark for a reason, fix the issue, they shut up, don't we wish those tea party folks were as smart, they simply enjoy barking/crying.
