I've been seeing post after post today on my Facebook news feed. Amy Winehouse is dead at 27. She was found dead in her apartment in London. No foul play is suspected.
I'm not quite sure why anybody is all that surprised. She has been in the news for YEARS more because of her substance abuse than her music. While I agree that she had a lot of talent and with her death comes wasted talent, and I agree that death at 27 is devastating in and of itself, no matter how the person dies but here is my however: Everybody is so worked up over Amy Winehouse. What about the 92 people who died in Norway? I haven't seen anything from one of the 368 people I am connected to on Facebook or any of the celebrities I follow, about the lives lost in Norway. Is everybody really concerned with someone who lived this careless lifestyle, abusing drugs, over 92 innocent people who lost their live at the hands of a terrorist of sorts?
I think our society needs to rethink what is important in the world. Amy Winehouse, whether or not you enjoy her music, is insignificant compared everything happening in the world.
Rant over.

Secondly, you're right about Norway. It's tragic all around, but to my Danish side, my neighbors were attacked. I feel for them the way the Canadian side of me felt for 9/11 victims. Don't f*** with my neighbors!
Here's sone Norway news on Gather.

Unfortunately it's the same way with tragedy....
Both the BBC and CBC are covering Norway and Winehouse equally.
I don't know the song, I am not familiar with her music. Your comment made me think, though.
11:00 PM National news, Norway story was first.
11:10 PM Covering Amy Winehouse story.
Nice that we can count on CTV news to cover the important stuff FIRST.
I can't agree more. Society's priorities are in the toilet these days.
