Welcome to the Friday/Weekend edition of Today On Gather!

Just a quick reminder that, I did contact Chuck of Member Support with a few concerns. I received a reply to several questions that many gather members were concerned about. I will add this information in more detail in this post. You can find the link to contact member support, near the bottom of this post.

Joann's Prompt for July is an interesting scenario:

On a solitary walk - in mountains, forest or seashore - you come upon a flat boulder with a hollow in the center. In the hollow are two shining white bones and a polished amethyst pebble. Somehow you know that . . .

Your job is to fill in the rest of the story.

Remember, stories should be up to 1500 words maximum per chapter, and 1-3 chapters total. Poems are up to 35 lines long. Put GCC in the title and tag if you wish to be a judge (and hey, it's not hard) or NGCC if you decline the prestigious judging honour.

Question: Is Stefanie Plum still in charge of contests and such?

 

Answer: Connie, we're sorry for the confusion on the Stefanie Plum account. We were testing an RSS feed on that account (which, in retrospect, wasn't the best idea). We are done with that testing, so please just ignore those news articles that you see on that account.





Question: Many or most of us have had a lot of problems posting, viewing and commenting this past week. It is temporary, as in adjustments being made on the Gather end, or is this something that you were not aware of?



Answer: I believe that those glitches were temporary. In fact last Friday the site came down unexpectedly for about 90 minutes. We think it is working normally now. Do you hear otherwise?

 Do you often get confused when you are looking for something in particular? You are not alone, it seems that we all forget where things are when we don't access them on a daily basis.

 

There is a wonderful post written by Gather support Chuck McGuire. It has just about everything you need to know in a simple to read format.

Need Help

 In an attempt to get your questions and problems taken care of in a timely manner, Gather has a staff of customer support agents just for your problems. However, keep in mind that they cannot help you if you don't tell them what is going on.

 Please refer all your questions, concerns, and feedback to the official Gather HELP FORM. The Gather staff will respond (if necessary) by email. The Gather Help Desk will be used for important announcements so feel free to check it out from time to time.

It took me four and a half hours (minus three minutes) to get this post done up and submitted. I fear that if I edit it, I will lose it again. I lost it so many times. I kept getting that dreaded "IE cannot find page". GRRR

Please forgive me if there are too many mistakes in it. I do hope you enjoy this edition because I really don't want all that work to be for nothing!

I remember the whole chemo thing and it is not fun for the person going through it or the family.

If you need someone to talk too, I am here. You can cry on my shoulder.

Nobody should have to go through cancer. It is a very unforgiving disease. One would think they would have found a cure by now. We can keep praying and will.

hopefully I will get a chance to check all the other great links...this round of chemo has not been very good though...but I am off next week so that should help...I just wish I had more time I could take...

my work's sick policy is awful...I have three weeks sitting there that I can't even touch unless I am actually sick...and then I still lose my first day of pay...

yes, but if I call in sick I lose that day of pay...my sick pay kicks in on any days after the first...and then if it 3 or more days I need a doctor's excuse...

it's just not a very good policy...

it's a good company to work for in some respects, they are working with me and my insane schedule...but it would be nice if I could use my sick days...

luckily we have good insurance...and understanding doctors...times we have run into issues with the insurance we haven't been the ones to work it out it has been the doctors or their staff and even the medical supply place...

Even though it took quite some time to get this up, the end result was great as always Connie. If it took me that long I would have said the heck with this. You must have the patience of a Saint. Seems I'm not the only one having issues with Gather. Downloading to a new page has become a pain in the rump. I almost lost a post today too, because of this. Seems that I have to continually refresh, or get off and back on again. Gets tiresome, especially when your time is limited to begin with.
Hope all is good with you Connie. Am off to do some reading. And again Thanks for all you do! Hugz :)

I am a strange person. I think it has to do with being the oldest of six kids.

Even when I make a recipe, I keep making it until I have it perfected. I add ratings to my recipes and notes. Once I have it the way I want it, I write up my version of the recipe. LOL

I do that with just about everything I do.

do you always use IE for your browser? I stopped using it years ago - much prefer Google chrome - things like what you described rarely happen with that.

you're welcome...I know and remember them all...for me - every decade has songs I love - I was sad to hear when Rob Grill of the Grassroots died...I had gotten their greatest hits on cd just last year....I also love so many songs of today, too - I don't mean the Gaga and Britney Spears stuff....I like a lot of the indie artists who are often heard on t.v. shows but never hit Billboard.

I am more into the country music today. It seems to be more like the oldies than the rock is. I miss the oldies. You could sing them and they had meaning. You could understand the words too. LOL

Missy Higgins is an independent artist. Indie artists - even if signed to a known label - are not as well known as others who are out there. Often it's hard to categorize their music. All I know is I find many of them through watching dvds of t.v. series such as Ghost Whisperer, etc. Trent Dabbs is another I discovered that way. I heard snippets of his song "Inside These Lines" and checked it out on utube - loved it so much I ordered his cd from amazon - and found out his cd are individually pressed when ordered lol....which was fine with me. He's from Tennessee.
Even when it comes to those more well known, like Beyonce, Christina, etc., I often like what they do that's not as well known as the songs that get radio airplay. When Beyonce's song Halo first came out, I loved it - it was very refreshing to have her sing about loving her guy instead of if you like it then you better put a ring on it type music. Check those two out on utube - the Trent Dabbs song and Beyonce's Halo. Even artist like Melissa Etheridge - her song Angels Would Fall - is simply wonderful - esp. with the music video. It's often a matter of being selective with each artist. Rhianna does a wonderful ballad called The Final Goodbye which is again difficult to find.
I think that's why people like artists like Adele so much - she's refreshing - not a cookie cutter figure - ! And if you've never heard her, check out her newest Rolling in the Deep. Sung from her soul.

Ha Ha! My hair is so short now that I look like a boy in my hat. Can't wait till it grows back out. It is growing fast but not fast enough.

They shaved it for my last surgery. I did go have it cut with some shape to it beause they did not do a good job shaving it. LOL I looked like a freak.

I hate when you work so hard on an article and then ya lose it! If I think it may happen, I try to copy and paste or save it somehow so that I don't have to do it ALLLLL over again, but still aggrivating!

I do the most part in another program but I add the links and photos and such to the main gather editor. So even with the other progam part, it takes a long time.

Thanks for the article! Had a very nervewracking experience yesterday....you probably didn't see my post but my son and I were almost "wiped out" in a close "head on" car wreck, on the way taking the kid to work.....I'm so thankful he ended up at the cemetery "live" rather than "dead!" It was so freaky........so close........I was shaking for over half the day; however, I was still able to carry on, made it to the grocery store and bout $140 worth of food for the party tomorrow......got the perishables home and into the refrigerator (without hubby seeing/knowing!), and then I ran over to the Senior Center to "unload" some of the stuff......everybody "oohed" and "ahhhhed" over my bud vases w/flowers and water beads! Had to pick the kid up at work, and he was so good about getting everything else unloaded (in a second trip to the Senior Center).....he was soooo fast!
It worked out great, as a friend was there, who's planning to help tomorrow.......we tried to get some sort of an idea where to put everything, and how to get everything done, in the shortest amount of time. We're good to go!
I have to get some styrofoam coolers today, must get some laundry done so the kid and I have clean clothes for tomorrow (LOL!), and tonight I'll be making my strawberry yogurt Cool Whip Pie, the angel food cake w/raspberry sherbet in the middle and frosted with Cool Whip, 2 lime Jell-O pear cream cheese salads, and then the orange sherbert frozen dessert......thankfully, they're all very easy to make and won't take long, but need to freeze/refrigerate them over night.
I am so terribly tired and worn out....thought I would collapse last night.......ughhhh! I can barely walk this morning....guess I should take some Advil and maybe take a nice cold shower with my "muscle soother!"
Anyhow, please keep me in your thoughts and prayers for tomorrow, that everything will work out perfectly......oh, and my cousin from Minnesota is driving down for the party....I'm soooo excited and so "pumped!"

Only about 13 hours left till it's PARTY TIME! Oh man, and here I am still up! Just finished my last list for in the morning, up till the time I arrive at the Senior Center......the stepdaughter called and she's picking the guys up here at our house at 9:00 in the morning, they're going out for breakfast at Cracker Barrel. I told hubby I'm too tired and I'm feeling quite sick, like I'm gonna throw up so I'm staying home.....ROFL!!!!!!! I just mainly have to "tote" all the frozen foods over to the center and stop to buy a couple bags of ice and maybe gallon jugs of ice cream.
I will take pictures!!
Nope, hubby still has NO clue? Am I good or what? On that note, I'm shutting the computer down, turning off the lights and heading to bed!!!!!
Think about me later today....LOL!

I am just getting so many columnist for the weekend edition that it is getting really long. I have new columnist to add to the upcoming edition as well.

How are you doing this weekend? Is the heat unbearable in your part of the country?

Yes, we've been triple digits all the way back to about May. I couldn't even do a veggie garden this Spring because of the water restriction and heat. I'm getting my beds ready now for a Fall garden and the fact that we had a rain shower the other day is hopeful.

The deer eat our garden. We got a permit to kill the deer but I would rather have the fresh veggies.

Gosh, can I swap you some of your rain for our nice, bright 102 degree heat? LOL. We're definitely putting in squash and pumpkins, watermelons and beans because they all grew so well last year. I think we'll experiment with some tomatoes because I've mapped out several different spots with varying amounts of sun and shade.

Ha ha! I have Netflix. A full length movie loads and begins to play in seconds. I mean, within five seconds of clicking the title.

Sometimes, with Gather, I 'mass click' Gather pages to load in tabs, go make coffee, water the plants, watch the birds and then when I return, most the pages are loaded.

My the lastest thing with Gather that makes my teeth want to turn around in my head and eat my brain is the audio on ads shouting at me. I mean, really, I'm sure feminine products are nice and all, but I don't want to hear about them as I'm drinking my morning coffee.

Girls are cleaned up....and sent home. LOL. Mom did most of their laundry (I did help). I can't believe how much sand and dirt we got out of the clothes BEFORE we put 'em in the washer.
