After the way they ended season 7 of House, there's quite a bit they need to figure out in order to get the title doctor back to the hospital and to explain Cuddy's absence since Lisa Edelstein isn't returning. How will the new season begin?

According to TVLine, "fresh intel about the Fox drama's new season suggests that the hit-and-run fugitive—who fled to a tropical island after driving his car through Cuddy's living room in the finale—will first be seen this fall...behind bars," so it looks like House will have to pay the consequences of his actions from last year. They won't be forgotten just because Cuddy's no longer around. If the season does start with House in jail, how will he go from there to going back to work?
Even if it turns out that House isn't in jail to begin the year, there are still steps that need to happen before he can return to work, and there are plenty of questions that need answers. Who will be the new Dean of Medicine when House season 8 begins? Will House and Wilson's friendship be strained after what happened in the season 7 finale? How are they planning to explain Cuddy's absence?
