Stress is causing a skin condition Kim Kardashian suffers from to flare up. So will she be embarrassed now that everyone knows she has psoriasis?
It's not surprising that Kim K is stressed out—she's planning a wedding; her ex Reggie Bush is dating her lookalike Melissa Molinaro; and she's planning on suing Old Navy for using her doppelganger in a Super C-U-T-E commercial. Unfortunately for looks-obsessed Kim, all the stress isn't just affecting her mentally—it's manifesting itself physically.
Kim has admitted to having hair from all over her body removed via laser; she's had Botox treatments; and she's rarely seen without makeup, so it's fairly obvious that she can't be too happy about being diagnosed with a skin condition that affects her appearance. However, after being photographed with strange red splotches of skin on her calves, Kim Kardashian decided to visit a doctor.
Unfortunately, this visit wasn't for kicks like her last doctor's visit, where she had her butt x-rayed to prove that it is real. Instead she was diagnosed with psoriasis, a skin condition that can cause flaky, red patches of skin called scales to form on the body. It's an auto-immune condition that is fairly common, and it can be hereditary. In fact, Kim Kardashian's mother Kris Jenner also suffers from psoriasis, although it apparently manifests itself differently on her skin. Kim had this to say about the difference in her flare-up:
I'd heard of it before because my mom has always had it, but she didn't have red flaky dots all over her. People don't understand the pressure on me to look perfect. When I gain a pound, it's in the headlines, so imagine what the tabloids will do to me when they see all these spots.
Luckily, psoriasis is treatable, but it can be triggered by all sorts of things, including alcohol, stress, upper respiratory infections, dry air, and skin injuries.
Surprisingly, Kim Kardashian has decided to go the same route as LeAnn Rimes by openly talking about her psoriasis. Rimes has said in the past that at one point, her condition got so bad that her skin would bleed onstage, so it's definitely something that can be difficult to live with.
Kim's trip to the doctor and her discovery of the cause of those pesky red dots will be documented on the next episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, and many psoriasis sufferers will probably take comfort in seeing someone as gorgeous as Kim openly acknowledge that she has to deal with the disease.

It's the most common autoimmune disease in the country, affecting up to 7.5 million Americans.
Like millions of Americans living with psoriasis, Kim Kardashian is at increased risk for other serious health conditions associated with the disease. People with psoriasis are at greater-than-average risk for heart disease, heart attack, diabetes, stroke, obesity and depression. If that wasn't enough, up to 30 percent of people with psoriasis develop psoriatic artthritis - which cause can debilitating joint pain.
Kim and others with psoriasis need our support and understanding. They are living with a lifelong and very critical health issue. To learn more about psoriasis, visit the National Psoriasis Foundation at www.psoriasis.org.
