"An' here I go again on my own
Going down the only road I've ever known
Like a drifter I was born to walk alone
An' I've made up my mind
I ain't wasting no more time
But here I go again
Here I go again
Here I go again
Here I go again..."

That is what popped into my head when Sean called me at work and told me that he was home and hadn't even started chemo yet because it is over night once more but they didn't have a room ready yet.
Here we are, after 4pm, and still waiting for the hospital to call and tell us they have a room ready.
Last time he didn't get to start chemo till about 9pm (after his hydration) and it is beginning to look like it will end up being that late once again. It's about two hours of hydration, then chemo, then more hydration. They watch him carefully through it because of the danger to his kidneys, hence the over night hospital stay.
I am glad I am off tomorrow and Saturday to take care of him. Then I work Sunday but I am off the rest of the week. There is a lot I will need to get done in that time, but Sean will be my number one priority that week.
Here's hoping we won't have to wait too much longer for the hospital to call. At least we have dinner. Chili dogs tonight and strawberry shortcake for dessert. Sean is just working on continuing to hydrate himself through his feeding tube.

Sean figures something similar happened where they didn't have the person out on time to get the room ready for him...
It's a shame some of us didn't live closer...
This is just one of a thousand reasons bed availability is an issue. It is frustrating on the nurses, too. We are getting hassled by the supervisor, to hurry up and get the patient's moved out. We are kind of between a rock and a hard place.
I know how frustrating it can be to the patient and the family. I just want to say, from a nurse's perspective, that we understand your frustration and really wish there was something we could do to imrove the process. But our hands are tied.
Here's hoping that all goes well for Sean!!!
I'm sorry he can't seem to get in and get that chemo.
Is he able to eat otherwise and just use the feeding tube for liquids?
I had a 12:20 appointment at Duke yesterday preceded by two appoints before that for blood work and an injection for the full body bone scan. The two early appointments went off right on time and it was looking like I wouldn't be late to see the doctor even though he is never on time. This is important because we want to get back on the road as quickly as possible, it's a four hour drive to our house.
We grabbed a quick bite to eat and had ten minutes to spare when we signed in. They then tried to tell me I was scheduled for a "bone survey" which I just had last visit and I knew if I went to get that I'd be late for the doctor. The orders for my blood drawing were also wrong and while the tech checked them out she discovered that the order for the bone survey was also wrong, but I was supposed to have a 24 hour urine collection with me which I was never told about. By the time all of this was sorted out it was after 1 o'clock and I never did see the doctor until around 2:30 which meant we didn't get to leave for our four hour ride home until after 3 o'clock.
Having said all that, the bone scan results were fine and the Zometa seems to be working resulting in the fact that I won't have to go back to Duke for six months.
So, alls well that ends well I guess. It's just so frustrating when you have a time frame set up on your end but the other end is what seems to be shear chaos.
