Murdochs and Brooks Defensive over UK Wiretap Probe

Rupert Murdoch and his son James told a British parliamentary committee they had no prior knowledge of phone hacking or payoffs to police by the News of the World. Later, a protester attacked Rupert Murdoch with what appeared to be a plate of shaving cream.

Rebekah Brooks denied authorizing any payoffs to police and refused to blam e any staff in the phone-hacking scandal.
