Well, you can have it at a park, where the kids can have fun on the playground. Dollar Tree has balloons for a dollar a pack, plates, forks, napkins and much more items.

Its a small beach nothing big but nothing we have went to as a family. Someone recommended buy a star which is cool but we can't afford it right now so that is out.

What about making a neat gift basket? Maybe get some things at a dollar store for things, like maybe a coloring book, crayons, little toys, etc. Yes, yes, and take tons of photos!!!!!

a couple I knew a few decades ago adopted the wife's niece when she was eight - her stepmother was horribly abusive and her dad gave her up to get her out of the situation - he couldn't bear to leave the wife - but wanted to do something right for his daughter.....(he also had two children with the wife)...every year, the couple would let their adopted daughter choose a gift and a day out....I don't know what you can afford - but sometimes you can give a choice of "gifts" based on your pocketbook and let James decide....and a day at McD's or someplace he enjoys?

That is good idea, we just like to concentrate on that day as a day of gift naturally. After the three year battle and all that all 3 of us went through no gift is any better then out little family. Congrats to them as well
