When I was a crazy teenager I was diagnosed "manic depressed with psychotic tendancies". They put me on lithium and I spent the next year of my life absolutely unmotivated and watching Mr. Rogers and other day time tv. When I turned 18 and had the right to choose I refused it and was rediagnosed as "highly creative".

The new doctor was amazed that anyone would have put a teenager on meds like that. As he put it "all teens are crazy, they don't need medication, they need years"

Now I'm 42 and I've never had a problem and am probably one of the metally healthier people I know. Having lost a year or so of my youth to the effects of lithium, I shudder to think of our already complacent society becoming more complacent.
