The new Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon movie from Michael Bay is set to establish a 4th of July record at the box office. Sources are reporting the new science fiction and action film, starring Shia LaBeouf and Rosie Huntington-Whitely, will take in $97.4 million between US and Canadian box offices this weekend.
According to Bloomberg, that take is the largest opening for a movie over an American holiday weekend, surpassing previous records such as the one set by Spider-Man 2. The Spider-Man sequel opened with $88.2 million back on Independence Day weekend in 2004.
Transformers 3 is on an earth-shattering, record-breaking pace with its early sales. Since June 29th when the film opened, it has brought in box office sales of at least $162 million. The new Transformers: Dark of the Moon movie is clearly entertaining audiences as they look for fun over the holiday weekend.
Of note, this third installment in the Transformers movie series, and reportedly the last from Michael Bay, is being shown in both 2D and 3D in theaters. The previous two films were only shown in 2D, meaning 3D is helping boost the box office for this latest movie.
Also of note, reviews have not been kind to this film, just like the other Transformers movies. These are pure ADHD thrill rides, made to be mindless summer fun, so it appears that audiences are enjoying the wild ride as Autobots and Decepticons go at it on planet Earth while blowing up and destroying everything in their path.
Have you seen the new Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon movie yet, or are you planning to? Do you think these movies should continue, be completely stopped, or re-booted?

Rosie OneName-AndAnother, is a horrible actress, her entire point is to be pure eye-candy. Why Bay would choose a model to star in his very expensive film is beyond reason.
The singer-songwritter songs peppered through out the movie are completely innapropriate and take the viewer out of it.
Also, some HUGE plot holes (big enough to fit an autobot) become evident about half way, I'm guessing because of sloppy editing or just as likely poor writting.
Shia LeB. spends most of the movie just yelling and running.
Malkovich and Jeoung are underused in tiny humorless roles.
I'll stop, there's just too much wrong with this movie.
Even "mindless popcorn flicks" shouldn't be this stupid.
