Can Van Jones Build A Progressive Tea Party?

I was involved in some discussions this morning on a couple posts that have taken issue with the Progressives, and more specifically, Van Jones. I decided to do this post to shed a different light on the man and his politics.

With the help and sponsorship of MoveOn, Jones is embarking on a campaign to create a mass movement to, in his words, "bring some of the spirit of 2008 back." The kick-off event for "Rebuild the Dream" was launched last Thursday, and I have to admit, I was totally inspired by what Jones had to say. Some of the points I jotted down:

1~America is not broken; the social contract with America is broken.

2~Government shoulders big burdens so businesses don't have to.

3~How can you be a patriot and be trashing America?

4~Something IS wrong in our country...

I'm not too sure who's willing to spend nearly 2 hours watching this video. But I hope you tune in because you may get the same feeling that I did, along with thousands of others who tuned in, that Van Jones may have started something, and has hopes to mirror the success of the Tea Party. The majority of comments left were overwhelmingly positive, as well as a pretty favorable media response.

I have seen some of it - I'll watch this clip too, A.L. On the face it seems to be a darn good idea. I've been saying for a long time that the problem with the Progressive movement is that they have all of these little fifedoms out there, all asking for money, & that they would wield a lot more power if they banded together. I had some discussion with Gail Mountain about that. She thinks it's a good idea too, & she was going to do some work on it, like corresponding with Debbie Wasserman Schultz about efforts being CONSOLIDATED.

In answer to the question, I certainly hope so. The center and the left are going to have to do what they did in the 1930's. They are going to have to organize and fight back.

We must unite to survive the storm that is facing our nation. People taking to the streets with the Occupy movement is great why of communicating the outrage with the current state of our nation.
