Rizzoli & Isles is returning to TNT for its second season early next month, and there's already casting news for an episode airing in September! The actor they've cast as a guest star is no stranger to the medical field and that's perfect for the character he'll be playing.
Competition for Isles?
If you were a fan of seeing Ed Begley Jr. as a doctor on St. Elsewhere, this upcoming episode of the TNT drama is one you don't want to miss. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Begley Jr. will be playing "Dr. Pike, an assistant medical examiner called in by Dr. Maura Isles (Sasha Alexander) from Western Massachusetts to solve a murder case." Unfortunately, he won't just be joining her and doing the job he was called in to do - assist her - but instead, he's described as "an egotistical, officious, anal-retentive guy, [who] thinks he should have Maura's job and quickly makes himself at home."
It will be interesting to see how Angie Harmon's Rizzoli acts around him as the detective and Isles work to solve the case. Since this is just a one-episode role on Rizzoli & Isles, slated to air September 5th in "Gone," that obviously won't go anywhere, but it still sounds like it will make for some moments of annoyance for Isles and it seems likely his exit won't be the most pleasant at the end of the episode.
What do you think of this casting for the upcoming season of Rizzoli & Isles?
