Glee saw some new additions to the cast during its second season last year, and they each played their own role in the lives of characters from the first season. But will everyone be back for the upcoming third season?
Who's still "in limbo?"
Based on what Ryan Murphy has told TVLine, it sounds like not everyone from season 2 is coming back for season 3. Specifically, the futures of Darren Criss (Blaine), Chord Overstreet (Sam), and Ashley Fink (Lauren) are up in the air. According to Murphy, "We've just started to write [the new season], so I don't know who we're bringing back or who we're letting go. We'll be deciding that in the next week or so. I don't think of it as coming down to the wire, I just look at it as, 'Okay, what are the stories?' That's what it's about for me next season."
Those three have become integral parts to the show. The last season of Glee introduced Blaine as someone who at first just acted as a mentor and crush for Kurt, but once Blaine returned Kurt's feelings, he became his first boyfriend and they both said "I love you" in the finale. Sam has had a few girlfriends in New Directions, but the season ended with him and Mercedes hiding a relationship from the others. Overstreet also got to shine in "Rumours" when it was revealed his family was living in a hotel. Finally, Lauren joined New Directions when Kurt left for Dalton and they needed another member to qualify for competitions. She and Puck started dating after he pursued her, and the season did end with them still together. Could she be leaving now that Kurt's back and they don't need another member for New Directions? After last season, it would be weird to see any of these three leave, so it will be interesting to see what happens as the writers continue to work on scripts.
