The Minnesota Timberwolves are trying to make a trade with the Washington Wizards involving draft picks. The Timberwolves would part with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft as part of a proposed deal. It's interesting to hear that it is Minnesota trying to part with their pick, and not necessarily another team trying to make a deal with them.
According to Yahoo! Sports, the Wolves are trying to come up with a deal that would exchange their pick with that of the Wizards in the first round. They stated that, "There is talk that Minnesota has offered Washington a swap of the Nos. 2 and 6 picks in a package that includes JaVale McGee, but that appears unlikely unless the Timberwolves part with more assets."
This is another rumor that adds to the one which has the Cleveland Cavaliers trying to work out a deal to acquire the second pick. It appears quite clear that Minnesota doesn't feel that there is a game-changer that they can get with the second pick, and that if they could receive a nice package of players they would be willing to give up that pick. It makes sense, especially with how badly the Timberwolves have drafted in recent years.
It would be interesting to see what the Wolves looked like with McGee at center next to power forward Kevin Love. That could be a formidable front line to deal with, and with newly signed point guard Ricky Rubio finally coming to town, the excitement level in town could be at a fever-pitch. For now though, let's just consider these all rumors until something starts to really take shape.
