Dumb fact: Why do Fire Stations Have Circular Stairs?

I just read this and found it interesting. The reason fire stations have circular stairs is because horses used to pull the wagons, but horses learned to climb straight steps. That is why fire stations have circular steps to this day. Anything else you didn't need to know today?

yup....and the poles have covers by them, so the sleepwalking firefighters didn't fall down 'em.
