Bathroom injuries are the cause of more than 234,000 yearly ER visits! Who would have known that their bathroom was such a dangerous place? It's where one goes to mend injuries, not get them.![]()
A new study shows that 80% of these bathroom injuries are on 85 year-olds and older suffering a higher rate of factures from their slips and falls. The tub/shower was the most highly likely place for people to suffer an injury. Age also increased one's chances of getting hurt.
Sadly, it seems that more people need carpeting or non-slip floors in their homes. Seriously, ones bathroom is suppose to be a place to find relief and relax, not to be on high alert. Unfortunately, for far too many that is not the case.
The majority of injuries sustained were bruises, scrapes and cuts. Women were found to be 72% more likely to get injured in bathrooms than men with 121.2 out of 100,000 getting injured. The rate for men was 70.4 out of 100,000. Find out more stats at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Hopefully, now that people know the serious impact bathroom injuries could have on them, there will be far fewer ER visits this year. Then again, maybe not.
